Hello from Geelong, Australia

Hi folks,

I've been a long time ebook user, starting with EReader on a Palm V and bought my first ebook in March 2001 from Peanut Press. I recently got a Sony PRS-350, and have had a fair bit of "fun" converting my old ereader pml books to epub format. I'm a big fan of Calibre and Sigil already.

Hopefully I'll have something to contribute here as well as more than a couple of questions!

Cheers,
Simon.

A lot of my friends in the IT industry would be scrathing their head over your movement from the Palm to a PRS since they thing ok the tablet PCs as the future of electronic book reading. Do you see the PRS as a better choice for reading then the Plan V was?

I haven't jumped on the tablet bandwagon. One of the reasons I chose the PRS-350, in fact the main reason, was how light and small it was. Even the new iPads are a lot heavier both to hold and to carry around.

A friend at work has an iPad, but then got a PRS-350 after seeing mine. He's a very avid reader and much prefers reading on the PRS than the iPad. He now uses the iPad as the small around-the-home web browser and mail reader.

As for PRS (or probably any e-ink device) over the Palm V, there's absolutely no comparison! The PRS is so so so much easier to read on. I also migrated from the Palm V to the Palm TX a number of years ago, but still read e-books on the Palm V as the mono-screen was easier on the eyes.

Geoff, Neil - thanks for the welcome.

Cheers,
Simon.
