How to unstick stuck indexing?
As my K3 book collection grows (1,000+) I am experiencing problems with indexing getting stuck. The other day I had to remove three leftover books which stubbornly refused to index after two days while battery power was chewed continuously.
Then yesterday I loaded a hundred or so books and none of them will index (checked by a period and then Enter at the Home screen). I have plenty of free space available, and I've left the unit plugged in to spare the battery -- but even after overnight, there's been no change. Any ideas? |

If this is Amazon content, DRM usually binds it to a single device. So if, for example, you download content for use with Kindle for PC, then side load that onto your Kindle, it will not be 'decodable' on the Kindle. Indexing will get stuck. This can happen with samples as well (when in Topaz format at least).
You need to either download directly to Kindle from Archived Items (use 5way right to add to queue instead of 5way select, which will force you to wait for each download), or go to Manage Your Kindle with a web browser and either send it directly from there or select the 'transfer via computer...' option. |

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately neither of those contentions applies. None of the books loaded have DRM (they have all been converted to .mobi with Calibre), and all are being sideloaded over the USB cable from their Windows master folder.
In the end I took them all off, then sideloaded them again and that seemed to work, although it did take overnight to complete. I still think indexing, which surprises new Kindle users without fail when it wipes out their battery charges and they are convinced they have a faulty battery, should be optional... |
