Only half of NookBook Cover shows

Yesterday I bought the nookbook Play Dead by Harlan Coben (great author btw, love him). Well when I go to library only the top half of the cover shows up. Anyone else had this issue? Or know how to fix it?

soooo...no one else has seen anything like this? i just can't figure it out. tried archiving and unarchiving to no avial. maybe I should contact B&N...

Yes I've seen it. In my case the book publisher was clearly at fault because the book cover image was only a partial cover, and it was not even the proper image at that. I used Sigil to look at the cover image and discovered the publisher's error. I downloaded the correct cover image, added to the Book via Sigil, and now it displays correctly.

However, I must state to make the correction I first had to strip the DRM, which I do for all my books. Also my book was purchased through the Sony Reader Store, not B&N.

In conclusion, the fault lies with sloppy publishing and not with the nookcolor or the B&N store.

This is much more common on sideloaded books rather than purchased books but does happen from time to time.

The problem is that the original image was incorrectly sized. Even using calibre one can insert an image that looks correct but doesn't display properly in the NC's library.

As you found, downloading another image fixed the problem. Good thing you are savvy enough to have figured that out; many users would simply have to live with the cut-off image!

Thanks for the replies. I still have this issue. I have not been able to change it. I copied it to my computer and tried using calibre to change the cover image but it doesnt show up properly either. It has no cover, just the blue logo. How do I go about stripping DRM to get it to show properly? and please explain Sigil.. Thanks for the help!

well i got the DRM removed and tried to change the cover with Calibre. Sideloaded it and still no dice, it will either show no cover and use the generic blue book logo or show the half image. I then tried to apply a cover from another book that has already worked and it was like I hadnt changed the cover at all, still showed the cover from the screenshot. I dont know what to do, but this half cover mess is driving me nuts, lol.

You really can't do the whole thing through Calibre. If there is an issue with the cover, I usually search for a suitable cover image and add it using Sigl. Then I do an epub to epub conversion with "Use cover image" checked. I have about 200 sideloaded books so far and all of them have a proper cover image showing on my shelves.

Can u give me a little walkthrough on doin the cover with sigil? I have tried and tried and still no luck with getting the cover to work properly. The best i have gotten is a white box the size of the cover with a smalller pic of the cover inside.

Actually, since you are familiar with calibre it will be easier to use it than Sigil for this particular task.

First, look up the ISBN number for the book, Amazon is a good resource for this. (Note: Calibre should be able to find and download the cover without an ISBN number, but I've had problems with it in the past and found that it does better when you have the ISBN number.)

Click Edit Metadata in calibre. In the Edit Metadata Information window, type in the ISBN number in the ISBN field, then click the Download Cover button. Calibre should be able to find and download the cover. Once the cover is downloaded and displayed, click the Okay button to save the information.

Then convert the book and sideload it.

See... I've done that several times already. Tried sideloading just the epub file and sideloading the whole folder created by calibre. still hasnt worked. Sometimes it will give me the half cover again, and sometimes it will give the generic blue cover.

Either use calibre to download the the cover, or do an image search on Google for the book and load it using calibre.

Now the IMPORTANT step: tell calibre to reconvert the book!

For particularly stubbon books (which have a boo-boo in the metadata), you may want to (1) convert the book to mobi format (2) delete the epub version you have, and (3) convert to epub again.

This fixed each and every problem I ever had with half covers or covers not showing up.
