				First Practical Artificial Leaf

May be a power source for the future: ScienceDaily (Mar. 28, 2011) — Scientists have claimed one of the milestones in the drive for sustainable energy -- development of the first practical artificial leaf. Speaking in Anaheim, California at the 241st National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, they described an advanced solar cell the size of a poker card that mimics the process, called photosynthesis, that green plants use to convert sunlight and water into energy. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0327191042.htm |

Another article: Power Plant: One Small Leaf Could Electrify an Entire Home By Richard Adhikari TechNewsWorld 03/28/11 12:20 PM PT Scientists at MIT have created what may be the first practical artificial leaf -- a device about the size of a playing card capable of splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen and storing the energy in a fuel cell. Placing the leaf it in a single gallon of water in sunlight could produce enough electricity to supply a house in developing countries with its daily electricity requirement, according to researchers. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/P...wlc=1301359312 |

i bet the leaf will be expensive :P (i mean, expensive enough so that my country, at least, wouldn't be able to afford it). that, or only the corrupt politicians would get their hands on it. my country is hopeless :P it's only a matter of time before global warming melts all the ice caps and sinks us.

I'ts probably not going to work in North Norway in winter when it's coldest and the electricity is needed the most. This d.t the fact that the sun never rises in the 2-3 months of the harshest winter. (On the other hand, in summer it never sets, so there'll be plenty of electicity when not needed) |
