Singapore eLibrary..............help !

Hi all, anyone any ideas/suggestions ?
I tried to join the excellent sounding Singapore Library, had a few problems filling in the form for some reason, so contacted them direct.
Below their reply :-

Yes, we do welcome foreign members.
Please allow us to share with you that our Library (NLB) eResources including eBooks are free for Digital Library members and foreigners who wish to register a Digital Library account with NLB require a FIN. Therefore we regret to inform that only NRIC-holders , NLB Members or foreigners with FIN may register Digital Library accounts that are enabled to access selected eResource databases from their homes or offices.
With regard to foreigners without a FIN, you may access our eResources only by being present in our libraries. Should you visit one of our libraries here, you can register a Digital Library account using your Passport number"

So, it would seem either they've changed joining requirements, and those who managed it on here are lucky, or I'm doing something wrong !

What is an NLB, NRIC, or, come to that, an FIN, which seems vital ?

Doing a quick check it appears the same when I signed up maybe a month ago. Use :


http://www.pl.sg/page/PlRegistration

And then click on the radio "Foreigner without FIN" and then type in a random 6 digit # and fill in the rest and register. Should work fine. Make sure to write down the 6 digit # though as you use this to log in with and they don't email you on account creation, it just works.

Carpetmojo, I'd already replied to you when you posted a similar question in this thread - please check it out so you can see the screenshots. Joining the Singapore is very simple, and you can access the Digital Catalogue right away.

You can also check out this thread for more info on the Singapore Library; some of the questions you ask have already been dealt with there

Ah...... spoke too soon. (Just recieved the following again......

" Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email.

We would like to share with you that only Singaporean / Permanent Resident / NLB Member / Foreigner with FIN will be able to access NLB Digital account and enjoy usage of selected online databases from home.

Foreigner without FIN will be able to access eResources in the libraries only.

We do have multimedia stations available at all libraries to access our eResources.

The charge for using the multimedia station is $0.03 per minute,and payment is made through the member's pre-paid digital account.

We hope this clarifies.

Ummm....... again, spoke too soon.

Loosheesh, Yup, I have an NLB digital account, can now log in (name @ password come up automatically), am in the eresources, hit ebooks, am in with Apabi books, ebray, Tumble and all the rest.

But every heading I hit, like NetLibrary, Digital Library collection, all tell me I am not authorized to view the resource outside the Library.

And again I get :

Really, is it me ? You tell me a Foreigner without FIN can only access Digital.
But I've got a Digital Account !
Please, what have I done wrong ? Have I gone wrong and got one ??

Carpetmojo, when you go to this link it will take you to the Digital Catalogue. There, you will click the Log In! button (which you will find to the upper left of the page), which will take you to a new page. On this new page, which is called the Login page, you will enter your:

NRIC/Membership no./FIN (whatever number you used as your passport # when you signed up)
Username (whatever Username you used when you signed up)

(You do not have to use a password on this screen)

I hope you are able to access the library with these instructions

Thanks again Loosheesh, finally got in - why couldn't I get onto that page before ?
I tried all the links they presented me with, but never saw that one at all .

Have now bookmarked it in capitals !

And I found time to dip in the catalogue and it really looks the business - non-fiction ref works especially interesting.

Shall now go lie down in darkened room, with cucumber slices over my eyes !

The Overdrive Media Console is needed to download audiobooks

For the ebooks, you'll need
Adobe Digitial Editions for Adobe ePub and Adobe PDF books
Mobipocket Reader for Mobipocket books

D/loaded an audiobook from Singapore , and it tells me it can't transfer to reader (PRS650) 'cos it can't handle WMA. do I have to d/load another Overdrive specifically for audiobooks ? My ebook Overdrive is fine, didnt realise I neede another version - or do I ?

And, this'll be obvious to veteran users, but 'tis first for me - I'm not going to get to the latest ebook I've transferred across to reader before expiry date, so will I still be able to read the book, or is there a "self-destruct, Jim" mechanism built in !?
