Question iPad and travel

I travel to Iran, for four weeks, at the end of the next month. For reading/browsing I have a Kindle3 (with vodafonesim) which should be able to connect to some providers in Iran (according to vodafone).
But I find extensive browsing a bit of a pain on a Kindle3, so I am thinking of taking my iPad + MIFI hotspot (also vodafonesim) along.
I've also heard of internetrestrictions in Iran.
I would appreciate some advice, before I go lugging that somewhat heavy iPad along in my backpack. It would be handy as I can load a travelguide on it, but I'm just not sure.

I put travel guides on my iPod touch. On a trip it would always be with me; whereas a tablet or netbook would spend most of the time in a hotel room.

Thanks; I'm thinking of buying the 64 GB ipod-touch; it seems to be a kind of mini-iPad. I think I'll take that along and not the iPad. I don't like to leave expensive things in hotels; not in a safe even.
As for Internet: we'll see what goes.

You're welcome. I have the 32GB model. It pretty much has the same capabilities as the WiFi iPad; just far more convenient.

Look for travel guides that load the entire guide on your touch. That way, you'll be able to use them without the need for a net connection.

There are a ton of useful apps available that'll make your trip more enjoyable. In the next several days, I'll list some of the ones I like.

Enjoy

Can you make any suggestions of available series? Are they apps or ebooks?
