Well, first thing, it set my language to I believe German... Now to find the right setting.
Edit: To set back to English, from the main menu press 5, then 1, 1 again, and 3. Last edited by MR. Pockets; 11-18-2010 at 11:59 PM. |

On the Aluratek website under the Libre FAQ there is suddenly an entire section of questions and answers in German. I wonder if this firmware update was meant to be directed towards German customers. In the webpage:
http://aluratek.com/cms/legacy/support-library.php the latest firmware listed for the Libre is still 0.18g. Please Mr. Pockets update us on what you find regarding this new firmware before the rest of us take the leap. I have sent a ticket to Aluratek about this also.Thanks. |

If you go to the ebook reader page on aluratek:
http://aluratek.com/products/ebook-readers Clicking on "Firmware upgrade" delivers the 0.19d firmware. But I am hanging onto my 0.18g waiting for braver souls to try this. I found the last time I upgraded the firmware, my PC ADE program had to reauthorize my Libre. I don't know if others have had the same experience, but this makes me stingy on upgrading until I know there is something to be gained by it. Thanks |

Well, the only difference I've noticed so far is Epubs no longer remember your zoom setting if you exit the book. If not for the fact that it is a step backwards, I wouldn't mind it.
I haven't found out anything else different so far but I'll keep looking. |

Aha, thanks petechan!
Perhaps I'll be able to use this update. The 18g one would not load onto my Libre. |

Aluratek customer support says:
"the only difference between the two is that the 19d has the German language." So I guess I will hold on to my 0.18g. I have never loaded a German book into my Libre but aside from the umlauts I don't see why the current firmware cannot display German text, and why this update was necessary aside from changing the menus to German. |

Well, I can tell you there is another difference. Epub doesn't keep my zoom level anymore. Which is rather annoying after several months of it remembering it. I'm going to try to go back to 18g but I doubt I can.
Edit: I tried to backwards flash to 18g. After the update process, I rebooted. It booted up normally, but instead of displaying the main menu, all it displays is a funny looking icon (see attachment). After trying to reflash to 18g, it still doesn't work. Now I'm going to try to reflash 19d. Last edited by MR. Pockets; 11-19-2010 at 09:13 PM. Reason: New stuff to tell. |

I ran the 19d firmware today.
The language set to German, which was easily set back. It seems much faster. I haven't read an epub, so no comment on the zoom issue. |

Well, I got "back" to 19d, but no success with going back to 18g. Oh well, I didn't really expect to be able to anyway.
I do wonder if it would be possible to flash to jetBook firmware after a "failed" backwards flash... hmmm |

I bet you could flash to a JBL firmware, and from that to 18g. Worth a shot, anyway. |

firmware, not the "Jetbook Lite" firmware. The tail of woe involved in crossflashing, makes it not a process to be taken lightly. Luck; Ken |

I would have tried it without hesitation a few months ago, but now I value it a lot more. I can't afford to replace it and I really don't want to be without it. But it would be nice to get the JB firmware on it.

Second, an important warning for those of you who bought the Aluratek without a SD card. Mine had no card, and the 100 free books were on the internal device memory. If I had followed the exact instructions with the firmware update, I would have wiped out the free books while doing the firmware upgrade. Be sure to copy any books from the internal memory to either an SD card or your computer before installing any firmware. I was hoping that the firmware would have improved the MP3 player, but it still sounds crappy, although not quite as bad as before. |
