Nook firmware improvements
hi all,
i made some modifications on nook firmware to introduce some new features (mostly, on standard ePub reader application):
Of course, you will need a rooted nook (based on firmware 1.5.0) to apply the modifications required. All instructions and download on my blog. |

What, no feedback on this yet? I've been meaning to get around to rooting one of these days and seeing these kinds of improvements make me put that higher on my list of things-to-do.
Question/Request: Does your custom firmware do anything about overriding the margins properties of books? I've noticed on the Nook that the margin gets re-sized when you use a larger font. That means when you go to a large font it also gives you a stupid 1-inch margin which is ridiculous. I've always wanted to override that feature and just use a standard (small) margin... Thoughts? |

thanks for your feedback. Regarding your question, i'm sorry but that would not be possible, unless rewriting the epub reader from scratch. On the other end, normally the margins are set within the CSS included in epub files. Probably it would be easier to manage margins modifying the epub files with software like Sigil. Of course this requires html/css knowledge and it's only applicable on DRM-free files, so may not be a solution in many cases. Regards |

Finally got rooted and your new firmware (well, the full-screen anyway) works perfectly! I never realized how much real estate gets lost at the top.
Nit-picky possible feature request? Would it be possible to do a full-screen mode to get rid of the top of the page but still leave the page number bar at the bottom? I don't have any use for the stuff at the top, but I do like the bar at the bottom... Thanks again for the awesome work! |
