Geoff: ha. it certainly has turned into a four course meal.

hughes: hey there and thanks for the welcome. What got me to thinking of an e-reader was the recent sale at Borders were the Kobo is $50. I came home and did a preliminary search which uncovered that there is a wealth of devices out there to choose from. Then I happened upon this site and joined. Recently I saw the thread about the Craig tablet being used for low level social networking and doubling as an e-reader. That looked interesting to me.

With that said, I'm having a real hard time narrowing it down. Any recommendations for a e-reader/tablet/whatever that is relatively cheap ($100-$125)?

Thanks in advance.

Usually one or two important factors cut the field of alternatives down considerably. Clearly price will do the pruning here, and the challenge will be to avoid the troubles that can come with less mainstream purchases. E.g, regarding Craig Tablet:

http://www.techrepublic.com/forum/di...cussion-thread

Some alternatives you might consider are the Velocity Micro R101 Cruz (~$120) or the PocketBook 701 IQ (but that's getting up over your price target at ~$160). If you're less into color and tablet-like features, then there are numerous E Ink display pure-play ereaders too: Kobo, Kindle, Sony, NOOK, etc.

Good morning all!

So, I think that after giving it much thought, I was just intrigued by yet another gadget that could serve as an e-reader and small pc. The reality is I have several versions of that with a netbook, Ipod touch, and laptop. I don't necessarily need a tablet at this point and if I were to get one I'd want it to be substantial.

Needless to say, I'm just going to be focusing on e-readers. How does the Kobo Wifi measure up? It's a hard deal to pass up, but is it a decent entry level e-reader?
