3 questions about the repack firmware update

Hello all,

After months of checking out tablet/ereader solutions, I finally bought the pocketbook IQ. I must say that I am really happy with the device, it feels real sturdy and everything works out of the box. I am new to Android however and there are still things I haven’t been able to figure out. I have installed the latest firmware update (the 2.0.3 repack) and I was hoping someone here could help me out.

-Gtalk doensn’t work, I have done the factory reset and synced my gmail account but everytime I try to open Gtalk it immediately closes.
-I can’t get my android ID, I have installed the Android emulator on 2 different laptops (vista and windows 7) and downloaded the image and placed it in the right folder. But when the emulator starts I just get a standard android phone enviroment without the market. I can’t add my gmail account anywhere en I don’t see the andy android like it says in the tutorial.
-I can’t get a2sd working. I can connect through USB and push the a2sd file in the pocketbook (I can even see the file with the file manager) but when I enter the command: $ a2sd setup, it returns: $ not found. I even tried: su a2sd setup. But this doesn’t work either. Even when I enter just: a2sd, it says: a2sd not found. Which is strange because the file is in the right place.

TIA Xervantes

First welcome to MobileRead.

I would start over again:
1. flash firmware 2.0.2 <- A lot of problems can occur if you don't get your firmware back to the original 2.0.2
2. flash repack 2.0.3
3. get GMail working
4. get Android Market working: Are you saying that you don't have market on your emulator? did you follow the steps on this site?
http://www.slatedroid.com/wiki/index...ket_For_Slates
5. Get a2sd working

Hope that will get you going.
Cheers

Thanx for the reply Hiaig but I found out what my problem was. I eventually got the emulator running by choosing the 2.0.1 (api level6) instead of the 1.6 platform. I now have the android ID.

But I have another problem: the reason why I can't setup a2sd or get the android id on my pocketbook is the fact that i can not get adb working on my usb connection. the whole time I was pushing the asd file into the emulated phone instead of the pocketbook. I have tried 2 laptops to connect and different usb cables but i can only access the internal memory and the sd card. adb connect with tcp-ip also doesnt work (unable to connect) and even with the adb usb command I get: device not connected. Is there another way to change my android id and get a2sd working?

Hello. I was having the same problem. Turns out that Win7 didn't install the driver just follow the directions on post #31 on this thread

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=113048&page=3

Basically you need to put the pocketbook in the android_winusb.inf file. Once that is done I went to the device manager, right clicked on the missing device and went to update driver. I had to go through and do a "Choose File" and browse to where that inf file was. Select it and it then installed the driver so I could use adb.

Let me know if you can follow this. If not then I'll try and post a better description.

Hiaig and urbannightmare, thank you for helping me out with this. I actually found an usb driver on a dutch ereader forum. I pointed the unknown device to the driver and voila. After this I was able to setup a2sd and add my android id to the pocketbook.

I'm having a problem getting the emulator to boot up. When ever I copy over the system.img file the emulator won't ever boot. If I just create a plain AVD it works no problem. There's no market so it really doesn't help so kinda wondering whats going on. I've chosen 1.6 and 2.0 and 2.1 and all three give the same problem.

I found that I only can get the 2.0.1 emulation working. However there was no system.img file present in the folder only 2 other img files. So I just added the system.img file to the folder. The only problems I encountered was that I had to fill in 9mb instead of 10mb and lower the memory to 96 instead of 1024 and remove the line that had a value of 24 ( cant remember what the line said exactly). I think that it also depends on which OS is used. I couldnt get the emulator working with vista but it did work with win7 (haven't tried Linux yet but I will soon).

Hi,

I can't connect my IQ to my PC, because I am missing the correct USB driver, can someone please tell me how or where I can download the USB driver, I believe someone mentioned found it on a dutch ereader forum.
Appreciate all your help!

The IQ presents itself to PCs as a USB mass storage device.
No special driver should be needed.
What PC OS are you running?

I am running Windows 7, after it is rooted, it is no longer showing as a mass storage device. if I connect it to the PC , under device manager, it is showing as a device "S3C6410" android device, and it is saying the driver is not installed or is missing.

Thanks for everyone's help, hiaig instruction was great, I am able to install the USB driver and connect to my pc, not only that, I have also successfully install a2sd to my IQ, and have rebooted. So I think I should be able to install apps from now on.
Thanks again!
