				Rooting Glitches

I managed to successfully root my NC yesterday, but things did not all go as the video on youtube showed. My NC booted itself back up after the SD card and USB had been plugged in after about one minute. I freaked out and unplugged before the 5 minutes instructed and immediately removed the SD card After two bootups from total off the aps I installed from the Market did show. I can't seem to install any off of an SD card and I'm unable to see the whole file structure through the USB cable. The strangest glitch is that my 4g micro SD card is now only 40 meg. Nothing seems to restore it to its original size. I guess that is a small loss compared to what could have happenned. All aps seem to be working however the filemanager can only be closed by a total shutdown. Avi player is working, as is Kindle and Sudoku. I'm really very PLEASED with the allover performance and functions. Last edited by dixieknits; 03-30-2011 at 03:13 PM. Reason: addditional data |

Editing to add that I researched SD card storage loss and found that using Windows 7 to format was a poor choice. Googled up a formatter named SDformatter 3.0 and regained my 3.9 gigs of available storage.

Download a launcher from the market (like Zeam or Launcher Pro). They are free and will allow you to access your downloaded apps without rebooting.

To install apps off the SD Card (sideload) you need to go into Nook Color Tools and toggle the "install apps" checkbox. Although it is checked after rooting, it needs to unchecked and then checked to really work right. After that you should be able to install .apk's from gmail, sdcard, dropbox, amazon, etc. The whole file system won't be visible when using the usb cable. You can download file explorers on the Nook to work with the file system. Astro is great free one. Root explorer will let you see/modify the entire filesystem. CAREFUL!!!! |
