This reminds me of the wireless company that built a new cell phone tower and suddenly a large number of people attributed sickness, headaches, and other symptoms to the radio signals being put out.
Except the tower hadn't been turned on that entire time. Shame I can't seem to remember where I saw that article, but it made me giggle ![]() |

I am going to play a slight devil's advocate, but only a slight one. In general, it is possible, that there might be some very small long term risks associated with using wireless technology. That being said, if you have a cell phone, that probably poses far more risk (Though still very, very small) than your ebook reader by virtue of it being constantly on, and how close it is held to the head during use.
The one risk that wireless ebook readers do pose is the possibility that Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, etc. are using it to track information about you. In theory they can not only track how many books you buy from them, but also books that you get from other sources and when you read (and what you are reading). In fact, Amazon and B&N push this last bit as a feature since it allows you to read the same book on multiple devices without having to find you place in the different books. Now, I don't believe they are necessarily using this information for malicious purposes (well other than marketing) but you never know who might ultimately get their hands on it. -- Bill |

my smartphone can actually pop corn. Not by radiation, just by its heat after long usage...

BTW, unless earplugs do equal harm, I guess I'm protected. I hardly use the cellphone anymore without earplugs and mic. Besides possibly "healthier", I'm also better shielded from outside noise and can communicate better...

Unless you currently live 24/7 in a two foot thick, lead lined room, you're ALREADY being inundated by TONS of radiation both man made & natural!

I suspect that bluetooth headphones would be better than a cell phone. Of course, they both radiate. However, bluetooth is very low power -- 30 foot max range. Cell phones need to transmit a few miles and put out more power. So, if the problem is real (????), my guess is the safest bet would be airtube headphones, followed by bluetooth, then either wired or normal usage depending on whether or not you believe wired headphones increase the problem. |

Ah - but have you noticed that life expectancy has almost doubled since the advent of all those electromagnetic devices!!
(Well, the syllogism is probably just as wobbly) |
