Can I make the constrast settings permanent?
Every time I switch books, my custom settings keep getting reset. It's pretty annoying.

I agree and would love it someone knew of a way to do this. I usually have a setting somewhere between +30/-30 and +40/-40. Seems to give it the best contrast without causing degradation of the letters.

Edit: I found where the custom setting is stored and this change will have the custom view ticked for every book when you open it.
When you have your reader connected to your PC, open up the file "database\cache\cacheExt.xml". Find any book where you have changed your custom view settings to see what the correct info is. Then just do a search for toneCurveType="0:0,0" contrast="0" brightness="0" and replace all instances with toneCurveType="5:," contrast="32767" brightness="-16000" (that's for 127 -125, use whatever your setting is for the book you already changed). Save the file and done. Be sure you save a copy of the file before making any changes if you're not comfortable with editing it, just in case. I pulled this text off my PRS-350, I'm assuming the exact text will be the same for the 650 and 950 though. Last edited by Ripplinger; 03-01-2011 at 05:40 PM. |

Using the above xml edit tweak, you would have to make the same changes to new books in the xml file each time a new book is added, correct?

Yes, you would have to repeat the steps whenever you added new books onto the reader. But just using the replace tool on your text editor of choice makes it a very quick process to do them all at once, and ignore the ones already done.

Ok, thanks for the tip! Not a perfect solution, but certainly better than nothing. I'll give it a try. This is such a simple request that you'd think there would be a built-in option to set global contrast settings, but I guess not...!

Thanks Ripplinger! Worked great, just took a second.
FYI, for those who don't know 'ctrl + h' is the command for "find and replace". |
