Need Some Help With My Kobo on Ubuntu

Hi,

I'm having some issues with my Kobo on Ubuntu 10.10. I hope I can get some help!

I have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions through Wine and for some reason my Kobo is not showing up on it when it's open. The Kobo says that it is connected on it's screen and it's showing up as connected on my computer. I have also downloaded Calibre for Linux and Calibre is telling me it cannot find any device!

My Calibre is version 0.6.42.

The version of Calibre is rather old; current versions are 0.7.46.

Rather than the version of Calibre available through the Ubuntu repository, go to http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux and get it from there.

I downloaded the new version of Calibre and it's still not detecting my Kobo and neither is ADE.

I just rebooted the computer and Calibre has found my Kobo.

My Kobo is still now showing up on ADE. Also a ebook I downloaded showed up as a .ascm file. How do I get my ebook out of that?!

You need to open ADE and drag'n drop the ascm file into ADE. It will download the ebook for you.

Before doing so, just ensure that you have authorised your copy of ADE (and to be on the safe side your Kobo).

I tried that that and it came up with this msg:

Error getting license
Server communication problem: E_ADEPT_CLIENT

What does that mean?

The books is just a free one from Kobo Books and the file is called URLLink.ascm.

How do I authorise my Kobo? Maybe I should try re installing ADE? Wine is all over the place too. I did authorise ADE to my computer when I first put it on. My Kobo is STILL not being detected by ADE either. It's been plugged in for a few hours now...

I don't use wine, instead I use crossover office. What I have found with my readers is I need to plug it in and let ubuntu mount it, then load ade. From there you should be good to go.

Where do I get crossover office from?

That's what I have been doing, I mount the Kobo and load ADE and nope nadda.

I googled it and I might install it and give it a go. It says it "use the search bar up top to find the Windows application you wish to impersonate". So does that mean I type in ADE and it will install it for me?

I downloaded the new version of ADE again and I gave it permission to execute and then I double clicked on it and it came up with NSIS Error ''error writing temporary file. Make sure your temp file is valid".

I then right clicked on it and tried to open it with Wine but I got the same msg.

Argh! I just want to get ADE on the computer and get it to recognise my Kobo and then maybe add some books!

Well, in the interim you could download books that don't require ADE but are still newly published. Like the Multiformat books from Fictionwise, for example. Maybe hold you over until you get things figured out.

On GNU/Linux computers I download nothing but DRM free books.

Keep up hope, I know that nothing I have said helps with your problem, so many apologies.
