Need clarification on essay question pls! (not asking for answers)

i just want to know if my understanding of the essay question below is correct. we're supposed to choose quotations from Plato's Republic (specifically chapters 1-6), then:

"the points are chosen because they are recognized as sources that significantly urge and drive us in developing or refashioning and reemphasizing something about ourselves and our ways of living as these serve to facilitate the living of a good life. this is how the points taken will be treated and discussed in your paper."

am i correct in assuming that i'm supposed to use the quotations i chose and explain how it would help me live a good life?

not asking for answers to the actual essay question, but clarification of my understanding. english isn't my first language. thanks

I would suggest your understanding is correct, though you might have to spend some time explaining what a good life is, before you get round to explaining how to live such a life.

Be careful with this. I'd read the entire work, then consider the answer in two perspectives. The first would be mine, and the second would be Plato's. His idea of a "good life" might vary significantly from mine.

Once I thought I had an idea of what Plato means by it, I could discuss the differences in viewpoint, and talk about how Plato's thoughts might be applicable to my life given the differences.

Incidentally, HarryT posted a complete omnibus of Plato's works in the MR Library. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...772#post145772 for a MobiPocket version.
