Got a Kindle today(Sony pocket reader replacement)
Well last Nov. my Sony ereader went missing or was stolen. And for the last couple of months I've been reading old school(paper backs) due to lack of money to buy a replacement. Last week there was a ray of hope, my parents bought all new appalinces for their kitchen and let me have to old ones to sell.
Well 1 week, 3 legit offers and 5 crazy people/scamers later they sold and my awesome wife told me "Come get your son, then go to target and get a Kindle, that will be your late Valentines Day gift." So I snagged a wifi only Kindle(don't need/want 3g) Was home and awake long enough to throw a kindle book and a PDF book on it to test then plug it in before I headed to bed*. So far I love it. Pages turn faster then the sony(in kindle format and PDF). I LOVE here the page turning buttons are at and being able to look up words is the bees knees. How ever. PDFs are tricky when it comes to font size. By the looks of it the only way to make it bigger is via Aa button and there I can do 'Fit-To-Screen' 150% 200% 300% and actual size. Is there no way to increase the font size? On my sony I could make the font bigger and I wouldn't have to scroll through the page. I know in landscape mode It is very readable but not all that holdable. Ideas? *No I'm not lazy by going to bed early in the afternoon. I work graveyard shifts on the weekends. Need to sleep for them at some point ![]() Edit. I will say that I'm kinda bummed out that it came with 3.1 installed. Was hoping to add pics of my son and wife to it instead of old authors. Hi and congrats on your new Kindle
![]() As you've found already, PDF reading on the Kindle can be a mixed bag! You cannot change the font size - merely enlarge the whole document. When you have time, you might want to try converting the PDF into a kindle file ie .mobi This can be hit and miss depending on the complexity of the PDF but it is worth a shot. You can use software like Calibre to do that - or look online for PDF conversion. Enjoy your new device |

Be sure to check out Doukan for much better PDF support. Amazon doesn't seem to be interested in providing better PDF support this gen. I do hope I'm wrong, but I don't really have much faith in them at this point.

So, this new from Target Kindle3 came with **3.1** already installed. Very interesting. Enjoy it.
I guess I should ask, might it have upgraded when you started it up and registered it? Are you sure it actually came with 3.1 from the store? Last edited by FF2; 02-20-2011 at 10:38 AM. |

Only thing I did with it was open it in store to make sure it worked(had a problem with a broken sony reader in the box before) then when I got home I plugged it into my laptop for about 30 mins then into a wall outlet via the power adapter. While I slept for my graveyard shift. The guy at target did say they just got the shipment in last night night. |
