best reader for finance student
Hi, I would like some recommendations on which reader I should get.
Basic it need to be able to financial journal articles which are mostly in PDF format. 3G and internet browser would be a plus and preferably black in colour. Also it would be nice if it can also sync with microsoft outlook and office, calendar is vital. I have attach a PDF of a typical journal article to get you guys an idea of the size of these articles. Thanks. Last edited by FinancialWar; 02-17-2011 at 06:39 AM. |

I think you are looking for a tablet. I don't know of any e-readers that can synch with outlook and office.
If you can check your email and calendar online, then maybe a Sony 950 or a KDX. They both have 3G so you should be able to check your email using the provided browser. The Sony 950 has a 7 inch screen and Sony is known to have the best EPub support with reflow and the like. I know nothing about the Sony browser. I am not even sure that the 3G allows you to do anything more then connect to the Sony store. The Kindle DXG has a 9.6 inch screen which makes reading PDFs a bit easier. It does not have PDF reflow and you cannot take notes in a PDF. The browser is a bit slow but useable. I would guess that a rooted Nook Color would be good for you. I don't know about its PDF functionality but it will be your best bet for using outlook and a calendar. The color screen might help with reading charts and the like. |

I know that Samsung E60 have microsoft office and outlook sync function, but it is good for pdf?
What do you mean by "rooted" Nook Color? I am not interested in a tablet because I already have a 12inch Thinkpad x200 Tablet, and at the moment, there aren't any proper Windows 7 tablet that's light enough to be carried around all day. Last edited by FinancialWar; 02-17-2011 at 09:54 AM. |

The Nook Color does not have access to Android Market and its UI is locked. You need to hack the device (root it) in order to do that. B&N does not support such action and your warranty is voided if something happen (unlikely, but still possible) Out of the Box, the Nook Color PDF functionality is really poor: no re-flow, does not remember last page, no TOC.
I think you should take a look on one of the new tables, like Galaxy Tab or Motorola Xoom. iPad has a nice calendar too and is really good with PDFs, same for Galaxy Tab, and if you install Google Calendar app, you can sync your corporate Outlook calendar automatically across devices, really cool. What I personally do not like of iPad is that they are not portable enough, but on the other hand, the screen size is perfect for large PDF documents. iPad do not have external ports, so keep that in mind. |

If you are not interested in a tablet then I think your best bet is to check out the Sony 950 and Kindle DXG. I don't think either one of them really met your requirement for synching to outlook. I think that there are some other e-readers that have expanded WiFi capability but I am not sure which ones they are.
Maybe Pandigital and Pocketbook? |

I am thinking of getting the sony prs-950 however, there is no black colour available? |

warakawa,
I concur with ProfCash. If you are not Interested on a tablet, check the Kindle DXG or Sony. I personally prefer the Kindle DXG because the screen is bigger, so most of the time you don't even have to zoom or scroll down/up or changing pages too often. The Sony has better PDF capabilities though and very good hardware quality. |

Hi, I called up my local sony centre, the lady told me that the 950 will not be coming to Australia, we have only 350 and 650 and at the moment the 650 is sold out. She also said that I will not be able to use American 950 because there is an app that's let's download book will not be supported in Australia. What is this "app" she's talking about?
