Got a Kobo!

Hi, guys. Thanks again for the advice you gave in my first post. I thought I was going to get a Nook but I got a $25 gift certificat to Borders for my birthday. Well, I went to the Borders in New Orleans which is in an old funeral home building and closing. I was going to get a Locke & Key graphic novel but I saw that the Kobo was 50% off. It was $69.99 and then I had my gift cert.

It would probably be a little while longer before I could afford anything else. I went out to hear music and go to dinner with my family so I just now got to play with it. I was successful in getting a .99 eBook from Smashwords on it, free public domain eBooks from Gutenberg on it, and a loaner eB Goook from my library on it so so far, so good. I'll have to see how I like reading on it.

I have now the Goblin Market novel from Smashwords and Pub Walks in Underhill Country from the library. I have some Poe, Wilde, Conan Doyle, and Yeats from Gutenberg.

That is a truly wonderful deal!

Gutenberg is ok, but their books are not formated very well, and have all that silly legalese up front.

One of my favorite sources for similar Public Domain Ebooks is

http://www.feedbooks.com/publicdomain

The public domain feedbooks titles have MUCH better formatting than the same titles on Gutenberg.

The feedbooks titles often have nice cover art, and preceding the text, instead of stupid meaningless legalese like Gutenberg, feedbooks includes a nice author bio, along with a lot of other nice features like DropCap chapter headings and Tables Of Contents.

The only thing to be careful about on feedbooks, is that they also SELL some of these older titles, and quite often you have to scroll down a little in the search listings before you will find that there is ALSO a FREE version.

You can also try our local download library here on mobileread

Sounds like you already have an Overdrive account at your local library, so you're good to go there. Hope you enjoy your new reader!

Oh, thank you for directing me to that site! I noticed that the "fee classics" Borders was offering were unreadably bad digitizations from Google Books for the most part and Gutenberg is better than that, at least but feedbooks does look better. I'll get some from feedbooks when I get home and check out that local download library here.

Have a look at the Singapore Library it is for free and has tons of books. This way you can read contemporary fiction and non-fiction, too.

Just join with a 6 to 8 digit code and don't wait for their enrolling email, it will never come.
