Here are the Mac requirements from the Reader Library Download page. Could it be a 64 bit versus 32 bit issue?
Mac System Requirements OS: Mac OS X (32bit) : 10.6.2 or later, 10.5.6 or later, 10.4.11 or later CPU: Intel, PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor RAM: 128 MB or more HD: 80 MB or more Monitor: High Color or more, 1,024 x 768 pixels or more Other: USB port (High-Speed USB Compatible) Pointing device suchas mouse or track pad Internet Connection: Broadband suggested Device: Works with Sony digital book viewer, Reader (Models: PRS-505, PRS-700, Reader Pocket Edition, Reader Touch Edition and Reader Daily Edition). Not currently compatible with the PRS-500 model. |

Dang. I was afraid I was the only one who was having this problem. MacBook, CoreDuo (32 bit, not 64bit). I've tried uninstalling reinstalling restarting uninstalling uninstalling permissions repair disk repair and have finally come to the conclusion that I don't need the reader library software.
I'm just going to drag and drop the books onto the mount when I plug in my reader. I think this means I can't buy books from Sony but at this point if they really wanted my business they would write better software. |

Without the Sony software, you won't be able to buy books from Sony or borrow library books. Any other books you purchase with DRM like from Borders or Kobo, you could download using ADE for Mac and then drag-and-drop to transfer or use calibre to transfer. Unfortunately ADE for Mac does not recognize the Sony ereaders so you can only use it to download the DRM'ed books and won't be able to use ADE to transfer the books.
Here is another suggestion that you might try. When you have uninstalled Reader Library, it's difficult to get a clean reinstall unless you follow the steps recommended in this link: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78921 |

My Macbook is 32 bit.....
I had no problem installing and running the Sony software on my Mac, and have purchased books from the Sony bookstore. No issues at all.

Have you made sure that you're doing a complete uninstall? As Bookworm_Girl said, uninstalling leaves a lot pesky folders behind. I had the same problem with it not opening, tried just dragging the app to the trash, re-downloaded and had the same problem. After deleting all of those other folders in addition to the application, and downloading the latest version of the software, it worked for me, so you might give that a try if you haven't.
Otherwise, unless you plan on using it to download books from the public library (the only thing you NEED the Sony software for, otherwise you can drag-and-drop stuff) I wouldn't necessarily bother. Most of the books in the Sony store are also available for purchase elsewhere. |
