Some Pocketbook IQ Questions from a Newbie
Hi,
I recently bought a Pocketbook IQ for my daughter--she's getting it for her birthday next week--but there are a number of things I'm having trouble with and the documentation isn't very helpful, so I'm hoping someone can answer these questions. 1) I've loaded pictures into the photos folder (jpg files), but when I try to use the Gallery program it comes back saying "no media found?" Is there some trick to viewing photos on this? 2) I've put some PDF children's books on the reader but they're fairly large files and they take forever to load and sometimes do weird things, like moving off the center of the page. Is there a better PDF reader available than the one that comes loaded on the IQ? 3) I've tried a number of times to update my firmware--even buying an SD card. According to the directions Pocketbook provides the reader is supposed to give a message Eclair (PB701.2.0:3) when it's completed, but I never get that message. It seems to me that the firmware never completes loading (the bar only goes about 1/3rd the way across before it ends and goes to the welcome screen. Is there something wrong here (either with me or the machine)? I'm really not looing for anything fancy from this reader--just giving her some books, photos, and a few videos. But to be honest, none of those things seem to be working too well at the moment. Thanks in advance for any help. Max ![]() |

In reverse order:
- The loading bar on the animated update screen never gets to the end. If the file manager you have available is the OI File Manager you have a successful update to 2.03. - For PDFs you can install Adobe Reader 9 or Repligo. There are several others you can try. Check here: http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/201...allation-pack/ And here: http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...p-for-android/ And here: http://www.freewarelovers.com/android - The jpeg thing I find odd. Are the files unusually large? Try activating them in the file manager to see if they open. Hope this helps. |

wrt the photos, where did you store these?
If they are stored in the internal card, Gallery is not going to find them. I suggest storing photos in the external card. If you stored these photos in the external card, then I am not sure why Gallery did not see them. Cheers |

Thanks for the help, but I think I have a bigger problem now. I was reading a thread here that said that the external card had to be pushed in fairly far, and was afraid mine was not in all the way and that was why it wan't reading. Now the card won't come out. I even tried a tweezers without any luck. Now I'm afraid I have a useless card and card slot (there's actually nothing on the card other than the firmware).
Is the Lost.Dir folder that shows up on my computer when I plug the IQ in the external card? I'm hoping if it is at least operable, I can copy files to it using the IQ. Also, how do I check the version on OI office manager. Any help would be much appreciated. I've got to get this ready for my daughter's birthday Sunday. As for removing the SD card, have you tried to push it in first? They pop out a short distance when you press them in. At that point, they've disengaged, and can be drawn out easily.
Just be sure to go into the settings first and choose "safely removed SD card" (or something similar) first. |

Unfortunately I think the card or card reader is toast. When I go to SD card settings it says there's no space on it--I'm guessing it doesn't recognize the card. At this point I may need repairs--does anyone know if it's worth it to repair?

Were you able to remove the card?
I would reformat the card on your PC and see if your PC recognizes it. Then try it in the IQ again. Cheers |

Unfortunately, I'm still unable to remove the card. I'm thinking I'm going to have to send it back to Pocketbook for a repair, unless anyone you thinks they can fix it wants to buy an IQ cheap.
