PRS-505 My Reader will not charge nor turn on/off

I haven't used my reader for about 1 month. I went to charge it, plugged it in and let it charge for a while using my psp charger. Anyway, after awhile I tried turning it on and now it is stuck on "Starting up" screen. This all took place yesterday. I let it charge over night, still stuck on the "starting up" screen. The red light only stays on for a few minutes then shuts off, that is why I am thinking that it is not charging. Any help would be GREAT! Thanks.

I have tried the soft reset, but all it does is make the screen blink a few times then it's the same thing. I did get it to hook up to my computer and look at my files to back them up, but it froze with the USB sign on the screen. So I reset it again, and it's "Starting up" screen again.
Anyway, so now it is still plugged to my psp charger, I am hoping that soon it will work. I am waiting on Sony to get back to me. I am still under warranty at least for the next week...

Please help!?!?

Contacted Sony, they said I have to send it in and do a exchange. They said my battery is broke or something along those lines. So it's off ! Sucks, I will miss it!

Me too.

But i found a strange fix.

Charge for 3 hours on wall charger - the red light did not show while doing this and turning the power button on the 505 and reset after doing this gave no results....it was dead.

Now unplug the charger. Connect USB to 505, still dead. Press reset, turn on power and it came back from the dead.

Thank goodness.

Just a note of thanks! This worked on my e-reader and I will let my friend know to try it on hers. Hopefully it will last. I have had my reader over a year and enjoyed it so much, but when I let it sit a month, like you, I had problems getting it to register a charge or go past the two screens you mentioned. Thanks again for the info.

Glad it's working.

This is not unusual behavior for all rechargable lithium batteries when they're new. it takes a few charging cycles for the battery meter to calibrate. I'm having the same issues right now with a new cell phone. In time all will be well.

Thanks for this info my reader would not charge, been sat idle since xmas, (now have an ipad) wanted to get it ready to give to my brother and it didnt work, came here for answers and now I have a charging light.
