Will they stop support of the Classic?
This is in no way a huge concern, but with the un-equivocal success of the Nook Color, do you think that the eReader with eInk will start to be phased out?
I for one hope not! But with the 3G being discontinued, and all the talk of tablets, iPood or otherwise, it is starting to seem that eInk is very slowly becoming obsolete. What do you think? |

No, I do not think that e-ink is becoming obsolete. I think there are enough people (like myself) who use the 2 technologies for different purposes, and enough people who would rather read with an e-ink display to keep it going. For another thing - the Kindle is still e-ink, so that might help. Also, when color e-ink becomes available that will give it more life (assuming it looks as good as the B&W).

Of course, current ereaders should still be very useful in three years time. But new ereaders will be far better and cheaper then than current models are now. |

I agree with you, pdurrant. It seems like 2 different issues - will e-ink devices continue to be made and improved, or will the LCD color screens take over? Of course, there may be (probably will be) better technologies coming along, so it is hard to say. I do think they will continue to improve e-ink devices for the foreseeable future, as you say.

Currently, E-Ink displays are, I think, the best available display for eReaders. I'm hopeful that something better will be along this year. |

I'm hoping that Color eInk will come out, and do well....I just can't handle LCD screens for a long period of time.
It's just a shame that you can already kind of see and end to the current generation when it's just starting to become main-stream. I would love to read Comics on Color eInk, it would give it that old Comic Strip look, which will be awesome. |

If they don't bring back "go to last read page" or some other easy way to go back and forth from references I just may ditch the thing.
It's very irritating not to have that function anymore. Other than that, I don't really see much need for further updates unless they can improve battery life. |

I thought it did that when you selected "reading now" or opened a book you already have opened and read. I've never had a problem with that.
I don't go back and forth from references though, I only read fiction on mine. I don't think there needs to be updates on it, it just seems to me that the focus is going more towards color lcd, which to me, I hate....but alot of people do love it. |

Sorry, I meant references within what I'm reading. Like if you are looking a at a map or diagram from the front of the book. You have to remember your page number or bookmark it to get back to it. Wouldn't bother me so much if it didn't have the feature in 1.4 |

Amazon stopped updating the K1 pretty much right after the K2 was released. I think the K2 has gotten one update since the K3 was released. There was rumor of a DXG update recently but I never got it, admitidly I didn't go looking for it but one would think that updates would be sent to everyone.
I think that BN will support the Nook Classic in it's current form until there is a Nook Classic 2. I would be surprised in the NC1 is supported after the NC2 is released. |

I just got my Nook classic last week and I am very impressed with the nook running 1.5. And with the ability to side load my epubs bought from other stores, it is becoming my default reader. |

I hoped for the same thing with the K1 and Amazon did not touch the K1 firmware after the K2 was out. The one change that they made was to add synching across devices.
If I have read other peoples posts correctly, part of that is because of the differences in memory and capacity between the different itterations. The K3 has a great deal more capacity then the K2 because it has more memory and room on the device to be able to do more. So the K1 could not handle collections because its infrastructure was not built to handle the requirements for collections. The PDF capabilities on the K3 are too much for the K2 to handle. Rumor has it that the new PDF capabilities are too much for the DXG to handle. I have a tough time believing that since the DX and DXG can hold the same number of books as the K3 but more then the K2 which tells me that the DX line has a larger memory but that is another story. My point, I would not expect too much from the NC1 from here on out. |

Oh okay. Yeah I can see where that would be handy.
