Please, please help me!
I'm really hoping that some clever person out there can help me.
I have a Sony PRS-300 and all has been great with it. Mostly using Calibre to organise my books, after trying Sony Library and Adobe DE. Our library recently introduced borrowing, and told me I had to use ADE to borrow books (they were wrong, but that's beside the point now). So, I uninstalled Calibre, installed ADE. ADE can't see my Reader at all. Messed about with uninstalling, reinstalling, turning it all on and off again, all that jazz. Nothing. Uninstalled ADE, reinstalled Sony Library. This can sort of see my reader, in that it does appear in the side menu bar, but when I click on it, the program crashes. Reinstalled Calibre. This can see my reader, and I can transfer books in and out, but I can no longer see DRM content - I think because the other programs can't see my reader, so it doesn't know it's registered for DRM. Tried soft reset. Tried removing and re-registering it on the Sony site. Still doesn't work. Can anyone PLEASE help me, otherwise I am the owner of a very pretty but very expensive pink paperweight!! Hi, Rachel. Are you on a Mac? ADE for Mac will not recognize the PRS-300. In which case you have to use the Sony software to transfer library books. It sounds like you got a bad reinstall of the Reader Library. It is not a simple uninstall/reinstall process with the Sony software.
First I would try Post #8 at this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59980 If that doesn't work then I would do another reinstall of the Reader Library. If you are on a Mac you need to follow Post #5 on this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78921 If you are on a PC, then maybe someone else will post some other ideas. |

I would still try post # 8 on the linked thread above. It has instructions for both PC and Mac that might help fix your Reader Library software without having to do another reinstall.

I just use the sony library to download books from the library. Have you tried it with the sony software?
When I go to download it asks to save, use sony library or download later. Use the second option use sony library. I don't have vista so I don't know if it is the same I have windows xp. |

Thank you.
I tried deleting the Kimona folder, and then doing a reinstall of the Sony Library software - but still no good. The reader appears in the left hand panel, but when I click on it, the program just hangs and says 'Not responding'. Do you think a hard reset would make any difference? laughingdragons - I can get the books into the sony library - that's all working just fine! What I can't do is get them from that onto my ereader! |

No need to uninstall Calibre. You can still run Calibre and Sony Reader Library. Although it is advisable not to run them at the same time. |

Little Rach Im pretty sure that you have to have both ADE and Sony Library downloaded. Although dont have them open at the same time.
At the moment Im having trouble with the Sony Library so been installing/uninstalling etc but have noticed that ADE doesnt recognise my reader when the SL isnt installed. But when I reinstall sudenly I can use ADE to transfer to my reader even though I cant get SL working properly Also on ADE you have to authorise your computer |

Thinking about it
When I purchase DRM books they are downloaded to a file called My Digital Editions. From there you cannot transfer direct to SL as the ascm file isnt recognised. But they are recognised in ADE so I transfer them onto ADE. Once they are on ADE it puts another file automatically into My Digital Editions which is recognised by SL Hope that helps you |

If you open the ACSM file with ADE, then it will download the EPUB book to the Digital Editions folder. If you open the ACSM file with the software, then it will download the EPUB book to the My Books / Reader Library folder. Kiwimick, maybe the Sony software isn't showing as an option for you with ACSM files because you are having issues with the installation of it? |

Here is a thread with instructions for how to deal with a bad installation of Reader Library on a PC. It includes instructions for Windows Vista. See post #2.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73550 EDIT: If you are confused by the name eBook Library in the referenced posts, it's because that's what Sony used to call their software before they switched to the name Reader Library. But the instructions might point you in the right direction. It looks very similar to the Mac uninstall/reinstall process. Last edited by Bookworm_Girl; 02-02-2011 at 09:16 PM. |

HI Bookworm Girl
You might be right because if I uninstall version 3.1 and install version 2.5 my books all reappear and it works fine except that I cannot transfer DRM books onto my reader as it comes up with the message " authorised to another reader" which I assume is my old PRS600. I dont know how to get that to change as being in the UK we dont get access to the sony store. Therefore to enable me to get Library books I updated to version 3.1 and all the books disappear and I cannot put any type of book into the library but it enables me to get Library books via ADE. Consequently I use Calibre to organise my books |

Thank you everyone.
I uninstalled everything. Reinstalled everything. Did a hard reset, and it's now all working. Hallelujah. Never again will I mess about with it!! But in my searching for solutions, I have also worked out how to get my library borrowed books into Calibre (which I prefer). So every cloud has a silver lining and all that! But thank you all so much for your help. Now I'm a bit less panicked, i'm going to look round the rest of the forum. ![]() |
