Kindle book $10 less than NOOK book
Wow, you really have to shop around.
Same book, big difference in price: http://www.amazon.com/Lies-My-Teache...5899806&sr=8-1 http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Lie...kproduct&pwb=2 Seems Amazon is back to its old self when able to do so. |

Along the same lines, I have found books available at Barnes and Noble that are not available on Amazon... One in particular are the first few in the Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson. I have no idea why e-books are available one place but not the other...

That is not a Big 5 published book, they have got us accustomed to overpaying across the board. O
ne thing I've noticed is Amazon is still cheaper for books that are not the Big 5. @LaurieGator, Both B&N and Amazon publish their own books so they have exclusive rights to some prints. Good for them bad for us. =X= |

Yeah...when I want to buy a particular book, I usually check out B&N, Books On Board and the Sony Store and get whichever is cheapest. Lately, I have been finding the Sony Store to be cheaper even than B&N at least for what I want to buy (the latest being Shadowfever, by Karen Marie Moning, which just came out 1/18/2011...BIG difference in price for that one...$14.98 on SALE at Books On Board, and $9.99 at B&N and The Sony Store ... note that this price at B&N seemed to have been recently lowered from the $26 it started out as on the day of release). Point is...it pays to shop around.

I'm confused. I thought the publishers set the price. Apparently they set if differently for different vendors. Presumably this is based on volume? Amazon probably sells more than B&N hence Amazon gets a better price. Yes? Something else?

Under the agency system, the publisher sets the minimum sale price. A bookseller can sell the ebook for more, but not less, than the minimum price. And if the bookseller sells the ebook for more than the minimum price, it can discount the book as long as the discount price is no less than the minimum price.

This book is published by "New Press" they are not the 5 publishing houses (now 6) that fixed the prices, er I mean price the books under the "Agency system".
So the publisher is only listing a MSRP and amazon can sell the book at any price. =X= |

If you send an email to B&N with the links, they almost always (and very quickly) pricematch the lower price. Folks over on the B&N boards have proved this time and time again.

Do you have a specific link that gets to someone who has the authority to get a price reduced? I'd hate to send it to some generic B&N.com-type link and just hope it wends its way through all the channels to the right person. Even if it made it to the right place, who knows how long that could take! |

$50 difference:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004DI7ISM/ http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Ant...9780132117326/ $40 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004A7YQRM/ http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Tru...9780132655729/ I think if your primary source of books is purchasing them from the maker of your ebook reader amazon might be better here. But if you have epub source (b&n, sony, kobo, library) and care about sideloading and not being locked down to source, then amazon doesnt stand a chance in comparison. Ability to loan used to be a plus for nook too. |
