Warranty question

When I was in Best Buy (Canada) today, the salesperson told me that if I bought a reader in the states the warranty would be null and void as soon as I crossed the border with it.

True or not true?

Where do you live? Where do you plan to use the product? The PRS 505 Warranty, which presumably applies to units sold in the U.S., says that the warranty "is valid only in the United States." It's not entirely clear what that means, but my guess is that if you mail a defective product to Sony for repair or replacement with a foreign return address, Sony will claim it can refuse service under the warranty. Someone with experience dealing with Sony's ereader support should be able to give you a better answer.

Edit: for newer products, e.g. the PRS-350, the warranty is "valid only in the country of purchase (either the United States or Canada)." Assuming you live in Canada and want the product to be mailed back to you in Canada if you send it to Sony to be serviced, you should probably buy the product in Canada to be on the safe side. For some reason, they have two different warranties for the PRS-350 site posted, which both have the same effect for this issue, as far as I can tell: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...SC&region_id=1.

Thankyou. I live in Canada but have a US mailing address I use. So I am thinking as long as I deal with it from within the states I should be fine (not that I would have any problems.)

I would guess you'd be okay doing that. A P.O. box address might complicate things, though.

It's not actually a P.O. box.
