Quotes are wrong in Epub. ' where " should be.

I have a few epubs that have the quotation marks backwards. Outside quotes are a ' where quotations inside a quotation is ". I want to swap them for the whole book using replace in Sigil but it also screws up abbreviated words and creates things like don"t. Anybody have ideas, already found a good fix for the problem? Help would be much appreciated.

I think it's a bit extreme to say that the quotation marks are wrong. The convention of which quotation mark to use for a quote and a nested quote usually depends on what country the author or publisher is from. For example, British writers traditionally use single quotation marks for quotes and doubles for nested quotes, while US writers use the opposite style.

In my mind it's like declaring that the spelling of the word 'color' is wrong and that I must replace all instances of it in my American ebooks.

But go ahead and replace them if it bugs you. I just want to make sure that you know that it's not a grammatical error and it's just a writing style you seem to be unaccustomed to. For myself growing up living in Ireland, half of the books on my shelves are American style and the other half British style and I really don't see the reason to declare one style to be more correct than the other.

But you guys drive on the other side of the road
I love reading UK versions/originals (before our USA publishers mucked them up)

‘Before we start changing even more’
“There's more variations”
But normally the inline quotes for don't always have a word on both sides, mostly because some other variations do exist. And say if you change all single quotes into double quotes, how to distinguish between those and inline quotes...?
Maybe it's more work than it's worth?
If it was your own book on the other hand...

Hmm, I'm sorry I wasn't much help.

Actually I am working on a book right now that only have ' for quotes, I'm searching using this which seems to work very well so far and hasn't yet picked up any abreviated words:
FD: '(.*)'([^a-z])
Re: "\1"\2

match case: checked

I use the proper left/right quotes for mine:
FD: ‘(.*)’([^a-z])
RE: “\1”\2
