New iPad
Hi guys i have a calibre server set up and running. it works on my ipad and my iphone when im out and about. i gave my dad the ip address details so that he could do the same with his ipad and this does not work for him. it keeps coming up with an error saying that the server is not responding.
i have no idea where to begin as i assumed that his would work if mine did and he hasnt done any extra mods to his ipad as his is as new as mine. any hints on how i can get this fixed? Thanks peeps ![]() ![]() |

Out and About = some other location OTHER than your home WiFi Could your dad have forgotten to add the port number (or used a semi-colon)? |

Yeah I can use the 3G signal on my phone to access it when I'm away from my house. My dad was trying it from his own home on his own internet which I thought may be the problem..?

Did you send him a well tested ![]() Or is he trying to type it into the address bar of his browser. ![]() Is there a possibility that his (in)Security Suite is over protecting him from this un-trusted, rogue Web site? ![]() |

He will definitely need to use your external address, and you will need to have done the relevant port mapping in your router's setup to get the inbound request sent to the PC/Mac running the Calibre Content server.
I do something similar, but use a (free) account at dyndns.org to avoid having to know the IP address. |

Unless your fooling yourself or are connecting to your home network via a VPN when you are away from the house you need to supply him the exact link you use in your phone to connect to your library when you are away from home. |

No I can assure you that I am not kidding myself I just used my internal ip address when I was at my work over three miles away and I have no idea how this worked lol.
I'll muck about with my external ip settings and ports etc and see if I can get this to work. It's beginning to bug me now. |

![]() ![]() ![]() No way that should work on a typical home router connected rig. You are using a IP like 192.168.1.2:8080 (or 172.x.x.x, or 10.y.y.y.) on your phone and it works from work? You said 3G, not WiFi. No way WiFi would reach 3 miles (even if on a mountain and LOS) anyway. |
