Question: What about posting the same review on two sites?

If you read a book and want to post a review somewhere, is there any opinion about posting the same review (about the same book) on two sites? Is it either wrong or annoying?

I would say it would be annoying, but not wrong. No one wants to read the same reviews at multiple websites.

I dunno about that - when I've seen it happen, my reaction has been more along the lines of "Oh, it's him", not particularly annoyed.

I would say it's perfectly fine. Why wouldn't it be? I would assume that most people are members only of a single site such as this (or any other type of site) and so the overlap will be relatively small. And even if someone should happen to start reading your review for a second time, how awful an experience could that possibly be?

If you see it on one site why would you care if you saw it on another? I'd do it in a second, the more people you offer your thoughts the better, either they will find it helpful or not.

I have no problem with it. On the contrary - I do it myself.

I don't post too many reviews on the bigger authors. However, for the indie authors I know that they rely very heavily on reviews to get sales. I'm very happy to post a review on a couple of the big sites for them.

The only exception at the moment is Amazon because I have an issue with them using my real name for the review. Anyone know how to completely replace the name shown on the reviews in Amazon?

Regards
Caleb

My public library has a new catalogue vendor - I noticed we can now add reviews of books that will be seen by all patrons of libraries sharing that vendor; however, we also link to Goodreads reviews, which is my primary review spot, so why show the same review twice?

This is how it is on the US site: Go to Your Account. Scroll down to Personalization > Your Public Profile. On that page, your name is on the left, and on the right directly across from it is "Edit Your Profile". On that page, you can edit the name under the user photo area. I changed mine to my first initial and last name and that's what shows up on my reviews and discussion posts.

Edited to add - on the Edit your name page you will have the option to use a pen name if you don't want to use a Real Name (tm) variant.

Many thanks - now I have a few reviews to duplicate.
