hello, greetings from Australia, with much thanks going to one of my Daughters, I am now the happy owner of an amazon kindle and after having worked in Libraries for the last 25 years this progression is an utter delight, I can't wait to get started - but a simple question first - how long does it take to charge, with a USB connection, a kindle 3?

Welcome to the forum! I don't own a kindle in any format (although I do have the app on my computer and my phone), but there is a dedicated amazon kindle sub forum listed on the main lists page. If it's anything like my sony, it'll take less than a few hours to fully charge from dead if it's plugged into a wall.... I would think it would have status bars?

well, they say it would take no more than 3 hours with the first charge, but you should leave it there alone for up to 4 hrs in the first 3 charges. and remember to let it charge while it's indexing the books, 'cause that work is hard and kindle'll use up the battery fast.

I've only just ordered one (with the apple-green lighted-case), but I'm looking forward to getting it in a week or two. Then, maybe, getting one for my mum.
