"Send to Device" on Linux

I recently installed the Linux binary of Calibre on Ubuntu - I want to use it with my Nook Color. When I plug in the mini-USB on the NC, it mounts correctly in Ubuntu; however, Calibre fails to see it (and therefore, I have no "Send to Device" functionality available).

Is there something special I have to do to get this to work in Ubuntu (or Linux in general)?

What version of calibre did you install? The repo versions tend to be very old. You should be running calibre 0.7.37.

I installed the latest binary (0.7.37) - not from the repos.

The ubuntu repo version in Lucid is something like 6.4.2, which is pretty old. Where are you guys getting the 7.3.7 version .deb from? I found a ppa, but it's only 7.1.13, which has a problem in it.

Thanks!

Robert

UPDATE: I found a PPA for installing the latest version so figured I would include that in my posting in case anyone else needed it:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:n-muench/calibre-lucid

The recommended way to install calibre on linux is by using the binary install outlined here by Kovid.

Code:
sudo python -c "import urllib2; exec urllib2.urlopen('http://status.calibre-ebook.com/linux_installer').read(); main()"
Many of the repositories not only are out of date but they often have glitches too.

Folks - I continue to have the same issue. I installed version 0.7.40 in Ubuntu 10.10, mounted my Nook Color, and calibre does not see the device. Does calibre log anything anywhere?

With your device connected go to Preferences - Miscellaneous and click on Debug device detection. Include that output in a post here.

You might also want to make sure your device interface plugin for the Nook is enabled.

You called it, dwanthny - for some reason, the Nook Device Interface plugin was disabled. Re-enabling it and restarting Calibre made my Nook show up automatically.

Thanks!
