Multiple News Feeds Problem on Kindle
Hi,
I am testing the readbeam.com service. The news are delivered to the Kindle all right, but I have the following issue: Only one news item of a particular title appears on the Kindle. If I download say Washington Post every day, there will be only one entry, even if I list the items as "most recent first". If I delete that item, the next older one appears, and so on, until I have deleted all of them. But they are not listed as separate entries. If I connect to calibre, the items are surely shown as separate entries in calibre's device view. I can imagine a usage scenario, in which this is the desired behavior. But, as I discover, if I have several downloads of the same item on the same day, then it is not the most recent one, that's on top of the stack and therefore visible. If I do not read the feed during the day and there is an update in the evening, then I see only the first feed of the day, not the latest. Thus, all news updates are useless to me. This sounds so crazy that I can not believe it myself either. I just checked again, and it is true. Does this effect happen only on my Kindle or this as designed? Has anyone experienced anything like it? Or am I just o.o.m.m.? Thanxx, Mixx |

Thanks, Kovid,
I did and nothing is in there outside of the amazon-purchased books that I deleted from the Kindle. I must yas, however, that none of the item is old, maybe after a given number of days the older ones migrate to the section. I'll check that. I looked again both in Calibre and on the Kindle in the Documents folder and indeed, the multiple copies are visible and they have distinctive names such as f:\documents\Washington Post azw-asin_EBCC5M6TC446M7A463X5EENF3Q2AJFNT-type_PDOC-v_0.azw f:\documents\Washington Post azw-asin_G5U3QOWUS3WUEYVCNRL6JTOXMEHL4O2W-type_PDOC-v_0.azw but appear only once on the Kindle. Just to be sure that this is not an readbeam.com effect, I sent multiple copies of the same News recipe via Calibre (downloading and mailing it), and the behavior is the same. Maybe that is the desired behavior. As I said, I can understand that. What troubles me is that I have the feeling that the only copy that is listed on the Kindle is not necessarily the latest, if the copies were sent on the same day. I'll verify this statement yet again, though. Thanxx, Mixx |

Well you will have to ask amazon why they do it that way. You can work around it in calibre by setting the timefmt to non empty in the recipe which will add the date to the title and make the kindle think each issue if a different periodical.

Thanks, I'll do that (both ask Amazon & change that variable).
