A Calibre WYSWYG?

Hi, all.

I've been searching for anything remotely like a WYSWYG editor for an epub book and haven't had any luck at all.

I love the idea for the recipe section, such as you have in your forum, but are there any sites where we can get a visual example of what the final product looks like?

I've been working with Calibre for some time, but the best output I can create is little more than plain text. Needless to say, there are some gorgeous schemes used and I would love the ability to design them. I am fluent with Dreamweaver and I have heard of using HTML to prepare books for Calibre, but can't find any resources that go beyond the bare basic technical aspects. Do you create a web site or just a page for your book?

Also, my formatting is off no matter what I try. My pages are mismatched and I have no idea of how to insert headers/footers or page numbers.

Are there any simple tutorials online for the basic design capabilities in Calibre? Any help will be most appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried Sigil? It is the one that is always referred to in this forum. It is also multiple-platform and open source like calibre.

You seem to be confused as to what Calibre actually does. It is an ebook library manager and ebook converter, not an ebook editor. As itimpi already suggested, you'll want to try Sigil.

I too would recommend that you explore Sigil, but saving the html from Dreamweaver and adding that to calibre should allow calibre to create a nice epub.

I believe you are confused. Epub is a reflowable document that changes with the size of the ereader and the size of the font. As such you should avoid using page numbers or headers/footers.

Thank you so much everyone!

Sigil is exactly what I was looking for. I could deal with the adjusting font sizes/designs in Word, but every time I converted it over, my biggest problem was disorder in paragraphs and page design.

Sigil is perfect. I can't thank you enough.

Also, I am very happy you can edit with Dreamweaver, as well.
