Hello all...
The intention of this post is… no, there is no special reason I’ve to admit. But there are several threads regarding covers and sleeves for EReaders. Sony doesn’t deliver one in their X50 series. And they collect a huge amount of money for those simple plastic sleeves. And there seems to be no leather cover for the PRS350. So I bought some raw (pig-) leather (3mm thickness), a needle and twine and tinkered it with my own hands. Isn’t that difficult. Most of the time the reader sticks in the cover like in picture one. Normally it rests in one of my pockets. It takes just a view seconds to switch it on and continue reading while remaining in the sleeve. For save transportation the reader sticks that way in the cover: You need just leather, twine, a knife (used a normal swiss army pocket knife), one leather needle and a sharp metal to pierce the holes into the thick leather. And time, of course. Time was available in our vacation. Made it on that little island on a rainy day ![]() Sadly, as I wrote in another thread, the reader gave up (power) after one week. No wonder, there are view things you can do on such a location exept reading and fishing... Besides: that's one of the experiments to load the battery of the PRS350: In the end I found a very cumbersome method to protract a complete powerloss. Hoping you are not bored but, as may be the case, inspired. A. |

I'm drooling that you have the blue 350. Very nice job on the case, but damn I really want to find a reasonable blue 350!

That's just.. great workmanship!
So, you stayed on that island long enough to burn through the battery on an eink device, and then you had someone deliver a solar charger to recharge it, in order to stay how much longer? So I'm guessing WEEKS here. How do you, the both of you, stand it? RESPECT! |

Thanks for your answers.
Yes, it has been indeed a very relaxing spot. 200 meters in diameter and nothing on it but a small hut built with coconut leafs. A coral reefs around, humpback wales on the horizon, laying in a hammock fixed between two palm trees and an EReader in one hand. Ah, and the island wasn’t called "Gilligans Island" ;-) . It's situated in the Tongan area. A major part of planning the trip was the question of literature. And there an EReader can play out its best card. It would not be possible to carry 30 books (you never know exactly what you want to read on such a different spot) in the aeroplane. If I wouldn’t have had the reader this experience would have been much different. But with good literature you can stay a long time. Waking up in the hammock, reading an hour in the morning, watching wales on the horizon, catching fishes between corals when snorkelling, cooking fishes on the open fire, reading, drink some whiskey and go to “bed”. In 4 weeks (not always on that island) several books have been read out. I even carried important “papers” on the reader, partly for backup, partly just on the reader alone: copy of passport, copy of bills, permissions, time table for flights, addresses and telephone numbers, info brochures, lonely planet for that area, small dictionary, book with reef fishes (a bit hard to use because in nature fishes aren’t grey…), survival book (wasn’t necessary at all) and much more. And it was indeed necessary to have that backups and information. Blue 350: thats my second 350. The reader mostly for indoor. Compared against the silver one the blue looks more valuable. I like it!
