pdb's

I have a massive collection of ebooks in pdb format. I had bought a jetbook lite because it handled them find. But the device is turning into a lemon. I have friends with kindles who love them but what am I supposed to do with all my books that are in pdb's that kindle will not handle? I now want a kindle for it;s reliability.

I own exactly one .pdb book that I bought from BooksOnBoard. It was the only place I could find that particular book in eBook and it was the only format the offered. Anyway - I loaded it into Calibre with the plug-in to take the DRM off and converted it to Mobi. It displays on my Kindle 3 just fine. You might try installing Calibre and converting some of the books to see what you think before you buy the device.

Really no matter what device you end up with I'd suggest getting those books into some sort of convertible state because pdb seems to be on the way out.

PDB is a general container format and can hold a lot of different formats. The JetBook Lite supports the EReader PDB format. These often have DRM.

Calibre can convert non-DRM EReader (as well as other) format PDB files. As abookreader you would have to remove the DRM first (if required) but after that calibre can convert it to MOBI for reading on a Kindle. calibre will also tell you if the book has DRM or not.

I believe the Nook classic will read eReader PDB natively, without having to convert them. I only suggest it if you really don't want to do the work to convert (and deDRM the books, if necessary) them all.

I have been reading on a device since the days of the monochromatic pda devices that ran on AAA batteries. I have approximately 10gb's worth of etexts. Guess I have a good 10-12 years worth of personal library built up. I am largely homebound due to physical disability and have difficulty holding and manipulating print books. At least I did not start out my collection with microsoft reader books.

It will. B&N still sells some books as PDB.

If these are all (or mostly) PDB books some might be other formats than just eReader. If you're set on a Kindle, calibre can handle a variety of PDB formats.
