Sony 950 Unhappy
I'm really unhappy with my Sony 950. Is there an A-Z tutorial somewhere? The Sony tutorials stink. The user manual loaded on the ereader is difficult to use.
![]() The WI-Fi disconnects frequently. Lots of error messages. Screen does not orient to landscape while on internet, so much of the page is cut off. I misspelled a word on the URL input address page and could not delete the word. It took a while to find the "keyboard" setting. I had to delete the keyboard history, which then wiped out all words added to the URL input address page. The Sony tutorials say that downloading from the internet is possible but I'm not finding that to be the case. There's so much more. Please help. |

I don't know of an A-Z tutorial, but there are plenty of threads here about the 950. You can sort by prefix if you need to, or just search keywords for issues you're having. Is the problem with the user manual a problem reading it on the reader, or just in general? I've downloaded it to my computer, which is sometimes useful.
The wi-fi shouldn't be disconnecting frequently unless you have a bad connection, but some people have had problems. You might want to start out looking through the threads for that issue, since I know there are a few. Unfortunately the browser doesn't work in landscape (irritating), but you should be able to scroll. What was the problem with deleting letters when inputing an address? Where did you find information about downloading to the reader from the internet? As far as I know that's not possible, though you can download books from the Sony store and Google public domain books through the Sony store. We're here to help, don't worry. ![]() |

I am sorry that you are not enjoying your 950, Kfara. I don't know of any specific tutorials. I would search YouTube. Perhaps some people have posted video reviews of the 950 that would demonstrate how to use its features. Also you can download the 950 User Guide from the Sony website to your PC. I find that it is easier to use when you have the User Guide displayed on your computer screen and then follow along with your ereader. Also remember that the options menu is your friend. You get to it by pressing the far right button on your ereader. The options menu will be different depending on what task you are doing (home screen, reading a book, in the web browser, etc).
Wi-fi works fine for me, but others have had issues. You might try searching the threads to see if any seem similar to your problem. Have you updated your firmware to v2.0? The new version is supposed to fix some of the Wi-fi issues that people had. The browser functionality is rather limited. You have already discovered the missing features that bother me the most too: 1) you cannot download from anywhere but the Sony Reader Store and 2) the browser does not do landscape orientation. |

I do found prs 950 has problem in connecting with some routers. I had problem connecting prs 950 with my wifi router originally, it kept reconnecting and failed. But I have at least 5 other machines can connect to the router without any problem. Later I changed my router, now 950 connects wifi without any problem. So you need to try which router prs 950 can connects. Now I use Buffalo whr-g54s with DD-WRT installed.
The browser is really a problem without rotating, I do hope sony can update it with firmware, it's a nice web browser but it's so sad it can't read horizontally. Currently as a workaround, maybe you can use http://www.google.com/gwt/n as web proxy, but it will erase all css in page. For other inconveniences: each time opening index of pdf it have to start from beginning, no text noting while note with pen is not so good, and no folder for book? In comparison it's still a good reader. But it does need update in firmware to improve c/p, the software is a core part of the system. |
