Editing book titles

I add a sequence number to the title of several books (a series) on my PC so that I can read them in the correct order, and download them to my Kindle.
I find that my changes have been ignored and the books are not in sequential order.
What do I have to edit to ensure that my changes are preserved on the Kindle?
Many thanks.

How are you editing on your PC? Through Calibre or just on the file name? You have to change the metadata. Just changing the visual file title won't affect that. I add notations of series, number in series, and put the number in front of the titles in Calibre before putting them on my Kindle so I can read in order. Saves bunches of time when you have a long series.

Using a metadata plugboard is by far the best way to do this in Calibre. Please ask on the Calibre forum for more details - this is not a Kindle question.
