Toshiba's answer to Foleo

Thoshiba just introduced the new Portégé R500 Series.
In 3Q 2007 they will ship a 1.72 pounds model.

Some specs:
12.1 inch LED transreflective display
DVD-RW
64 GB SSD
8h. battery life
(it even works without a Treo...)

Details here

No Foleo for me thanks.

Yes, but does it have an instant on start up, with no waiting for bootup?

Well, Toshiba's "answer" is just another laptop, starting at a dollar under 2 grand. And replacing a mechanical hard drive with solid-state memory didn't drop that price any more than that?

I thought the SSD's are still a good deal pricier than the HDD's -- perhaps I am mistaken.

Yes. There are now several vendors, which may reduce the price, but an aftermarket 32 GB SSD is about $1,000. On the other hand the cheapest Raon Everun will come with a 6 GB SSD, and SSDs need less power than HDDs.

SSDs are pricer just because they are so new. But just as my SD card costs comparable to or less than a mechanical HD, so SDDs should be lower in price... if for no other reason, fewer materials and no moving parts used. I can wait.

Yes, that's what I was getting at, that while the SSD prices will doubtless eventually drop meteorically, they're still too new to look for that drop already.
