Adding a Sort column in main GUI
Hi all,
How do I add a column in the main GUI. I want to add a date column by "Date book Published", i can go through the interface option but the date there is only the date added to library. Thanks |

Doesn't the Published date (available under columns in preferences) do what you want?

Sorry had the reader for about 2 days. So way unfamiliar with it all.
I looked under preferences, And the option i have then is "add your own columns". When i choose this it does have a date option there i can tick to add, except this option works of the "the date Added" not "date published", that is what I am after. |

There is the "Published" column in the default view that shows this (although you may have to scroll to the right to get it into view).

Sorry to make this simple "for me that is". I have just brought my first reader and have some books by Julian May. I have no idea what order they are meant to be red in. So i figure i will just go with date she wrote them. Problem is the sony PRS-650 does not sort them by date published, so am trying to figure out how i can sort through the Author by date published.
regards |

It is probably easier to set them up as a Series in Calibre and then access them on the Sony as a Collection. When Calibre sets up a Collection on the Sony based on the Series name, calibre puts them into Series-Index order.

OK - then go into Preferences->Interface->Add Your Own Columns and tick the "Published" option. It was already ticked for me so I thought it was ticked by default.

Thats a good thing, except in the julian may sereies there is 3 different series but all related, and this shows up as 3 different collections. And the only thing i can think of at the moment is to be able to author search by published date so i know what order she wrote them.

Talk about having a daddies look, Missed it completly. Thanks for that. Now i notice my next problem LOL. Have to go back and update all the books as the date now showing when ebooked not when written.
Next question, is there anyway i can add this sort option to my Ereader, as it only sorts by added date. regards and thanks for the quick replies. |

Fair enough, although as there is no published date overlap between the different series you could work through each one it turn and it is only when you want to know which series is next that the published date might come into play.
A way around this would be to use a custom series column and series index covering all threee series and allow this to also create a collection - but that might be overkill for your need. |

I think you may be onto something here. I have no idea how common it is, But my luck the way it is have picked to series to read one by julian May and the other is dragonlance series. and they all over the place. So of course with those 2 choices i am trying to figure out a read order that i can follow. What i did with dragonlance is a word doc with order of read. but if i can do a custom colume that will transfer to the eraeder that i can setup vice the word doc, that would be a treat. So next question is HOW LOL
regards again for you time and help |
