Formatting problem
Hi I'm a new, and extremely impressed user of Calibre.
I'm using it to convert to Mobi for a Kindle 3. A regular issue I'm finding, is the strange line-return formatting problem demonstrated below:- -------------------------------------------- It was late. Outside the rain drummed on the tin roof of the Quonset. A stench of rusting metal, old leather, dust, unwashed socks and stale beer hung in the room; it was a prison smell, though this wasn't a prison, but the field headquarters of an outfit calling itself RamDyne Security on several hundred obscure acres of untillable central Virginia. The planners sat in front of the darkened room; the brutish Jack Payne, the second scariest man in the world, sat across the table; and that was all, such a tiny team for the immense and melancholy task that lay ahead of them. ------------------------------------------------ Is there a simple fix for this? ![]() |

That generally means there is something wrong with the source doc. What are you converting from? If it's pdf make sure the line un-wrap factor is correct under pdf input, it should be 0.45.
If it's some other non-epub format enable preprocessing under structure detection before converting the file. If it's epub you need to jump through extra hoops. |

It seems to happen with a variety of input formats, the latest being a number of PRC books.
Does anyone know of any tutorials regarding the conversion part of Calibre? The un-wrap factor mentioned above sounds interesting, but is there a central resource/tutorial where one can learn about it? |

The conversion part of the manual is online here:
http://www.calibre-ebook.com/user_ma...onversion.html If it's a variety of formats then enabling preprocessing and tweaking the line unwrap factor there is what you need in general. IIRC mobi - which might be prc as well - is not subject to the line unwrapping preprocessing logic at this point in time. If it's actuall pdb or something else then unwrapping should work. If it doesn't work on the first try you could do something like convert to Lit and then convert the lit file with preprocessing enabled back to mobi. Last edited by ldolse; 12-20-2010 at 12:35 PM. |
