Topaz with azw extension show as Unknown

First, sorry if this has been covered I did a search for topaz and did not notice this particular type of request.

I discovered over the weekend that I had a number of free (26 actually) books from Amazon that I fed into Calibre. They all showed up as Unknown. I later learned that while generally topaz books have a azw1 (or some other extension), these all were "normal" amazon extensions. Changing the extensions manually helped and most then imported (2 did not for whatever reason).

I know there are a lot of requests for features but I was wondering if Calibre could peer inside azw files as they are being ADDED and see the "topaz" string identifier in the first few characters and treat them as if they had the azw1 extension so that the metadata could be added. I know the opening string is not exactly "topaz" but don't recall the real characters now.

As is I had to find those files, and manually and individually change their extensions and then reread them into Calibre. There was no way of knowing in advance and it was Calibre that clearly labeled them after ADDING as Unknown.

thanks for considering this if it is not too much to peer inside of such files.
