FINALLY Sold My 900 Today

It was looking like I would never sell it at $90. Had it listed for almost a month. Still shaking my head at having bought it for $400 (plus $40 for the M-Edge cover and $40 for the extended warranty) earlier this year.

Congrats! That's better than the Sony trade-in deal. Do you plan to buy a 950 now?

I think I'll sit on the sideline for a bit. Now that I have a NOOKcolor (rooted with Kindle app), it would be nice to have a NOOK (eink). I'm not particularly attracted to the current model -- think it's due for a cosmetic refresh. Hopefully they'll have a new model by this time next year.

I may not return to the Sony fold because they don't offer a phone app for Windows Mobile. B&N don't offer one either (no one does!), but fortunately my phone came with a B&N ereader app. Initially I was disappointed that it wasn't the Kindle app. Funny how things change.

I don't regret paying full price for my 900 because I certainly enjoyed it. However I am really lovin' my new 950 - what an improvement! Your new NOOKcolor should keep you busy for awhile. Perhaps the soon-to-be-released Sony app will work on your rooted NC? An eink reader would definitely be a nice companion for the NC. LCD displays don't hurt my eyes like some people, but I still prefer the eink screen for long reading sessions.

Well, maybe this time next year there will be something on the market that nobody anticipates. At least the beauty of EPUB is that your library is portable with minimal effort.

Scion, I do think the 650 is quite nice and a good choice if you go for eink. After playing with the nook, I'm no impressed with it at all. The LCD screen at the bottom is just so counter-intuitive and not normal. I much prefer the touch to be on the main screen.

Funny you mention this! I was at my local B&N a few days ago and decided to have a hands-on with the NOOK (never had previously). I wasn't impressed. Just like you said, the maneuvering was awkward. One of the reasons I thinks it's due for a cosmetic refresh.

Sony have spoiled us with the touchscreens. I agree the 650 is ideal if one doesn't need the features of the 950. In my case, I don't because I have the NOOKcolor. That was my original plan before placing myself in a holding pattern. I'll see how next year progresses. I think the Sony prices will come down permanently.

Thanks for responding!

I lucked out and sold my 900 back in July after I saw the Kindle DXG with its Pearl screen. Since that was before Sony announced their newest readers I was able to get $200 (if I remember correctly). I then much later bought the 950 for $250 when it was on sale. I too just got the NOOKcolor and it is terrific for PDFs and web. I like my 950 for reading in bright light though.

Yes, I need something for reading in bright light (baking sun) as well. Thank goodness for the cooler weather now in our neck of the woods. I'm definitely going to need an e-ink device come May.

Yep, it finally cooled down in Hell--err, I mean north Texas! I think you and I both like to read on the 900/950 in landscape, two-page mode. A less expensive alternative might be to get the 350 for reading in bright light, including sunlight. I use mine a lot outside or when I go someplace as it is easy to place in my shirt or coat pocket. I still prefer the 950 for extended reading, but the 350 is a nice sidekick for any other reader whether made by Sony or another manufacturer.

I mostly use my new NOOKcolor for reading PDFs and MS Office files. I really like the way it works with PowerPoint presentations. But I rarely use it to read a novel, although indoors it works very well in that capacity. It is more like a business tool for me. But forget about using it outside in even indirect sunlight! It is the 7" iPad that Jobs refuses to build, but without the inflated Apple price. Right out of the box it does what I need it to, though I look forward to apps in the future and to not playing the Apple game--that is, I won't have to deal with the demons of Cupertino or their cult of blind followers!
