Any Mac Publishers for Kobo?
Are there any Macintosh Publishers creating books for Kobo on here? I have a problem. I cannot run Kobo software on my PowerPC Mac. It needs an Intel based Mac. Do you know of a solution? Thanks. - Fabe

Can you run Adobe Digital Editions or Calibre? You'll probably want to use those anyway. The Kobo software doesn't work very well.

The Kobo desktop software is getting better (really), but I doubt that anyone will come up with a version that will run on a non-Intel Mac. I would use the Adobe/Calibre work around, but you re giving up the ability to use the dictionary and to sync.

Kobo & Mac PowerPCs
La Coccinelle & taming - Thanks for your responses. I've dug a bit of a hole for myself in my relationship with the Kobo people since I expressed how disappointed I was in their software not supporting Mac PowerPCs.
I will go back to them and ask if working through Calibre is a suitable work-around, and if so how to upload to their system. I will post their response and my progress. Thanks again. Happy solstice. - Fabe |

You will not be uploading to their system, you will be downloading ePUB files (using Adobe Digital Editions) from Kobo and then importing them into Calibre to move them onto your reader or sending them to the reader from ADE. The Calibre demo gives you the basics. You should not have any problems. ADE is even easier, but you have fewer options in terms of organizing your library, using plug-ins, etc.

A member of the Kobo Customer Care Team sent me a private message on here, directing me to a web page where an older version of Kobo uploader (or whatever it is called) is available for 10.4.11 users. To date, I have not been able to access the page from their link. I am awaiting further instructions from them. Thanks for your interest. - Fabe |

I assure you you could build white box for about $200. Install linux or
win, to your liking. I thought you only had had to make a proper epub. At least, having dedicated box is necessary for production, you cannot avoid that. I wasn't aware of application for upload. Is it the same app people use to load their books to the reader? |

Sorry Fabe--I did misunderstand you. I hope you get it straightened out. And then I hope you are so wildly successful that you can buy a brand new Mac!

I don't know if it is the same since I haven't been able to use it yet. And I have to admit, I have no idea what you mean by a 'white box'. |

I think by "white box" he means build a basic, generic, PC from components, OR even purchase a very basic PC.

Yep. "White box" means you go to store and get parts for computer.
Then take them home and put it all together. My stream server runs for just above $150. If I'd live in states, it might go even lower. |
