Genghis:Birth of an Empire (Historical Fiction) (US) $1.59-$1.99

Genghis: Birth of an Empire
by Conn Iggulden

They have this listed as general fiction at Sony but from the description it sounds like historical to me:

Quote:
He was born Temujin, the son of a khan, raised in a clan of hunters migrating across the rugged steppe. Temujin's young life was shaped by a series of brutal acts: the betrayal of his father by a neighboring tribe and the abandonment of his entire family, cruelly left to die on the harsh plain. But Temujin endured--and from that moment on, he was driven by a singular fury: to survive in the face of death, to kill before being killed, and to conquer enemies who could come without warning from beyond the horizon.

Through a series of courageous raids against the Tartars, Temujin's legend grew. And so did the challenges he faced--from the machinations of a Chinese ambassador to the brutal abduction of his young wife, Borte. Blessed with ferocious courage, it was the young warrior's ability to learn, to imagine, and to judge the hearts of others that propelled him to greater and greater power. Until Temujin was chasing a vision: to unite many tribes into one, to make the earth tremble under the hoofbeats of a thousand warhorses, to subject unknown nations and even empires to his will.

Huh - that's weird. It didn't come up when I did a search.

Thanks for finding it!

Careful! It's read-online only unless you have the KOBO reader. I got burned! I didn't realize KOBO played games like that.

Edit: I sent Kobo an email explainin my confusion and asking for my mony back. son of a Gun! When I got home today, I had an email from Kobo saying they were issuing a refund.

Gotta love the good service!

I've read the first two books in this series. Fantastic stuff if you are into historical fiction.

Good to hear, T3!

That's great news, Glen. Yes, not all books are available in all formats there but they are listed for each book individually. Lately I have been noticing ones without EPUB available, so I hope that's not a trend.

Ouch - I thought Kobo books that you can read on an e-reader were ePub. I know that some don't list e-readers and I assumed those were the read-online books. Did Kobo give you any indication how to tell which were which?

Glad they made it right, but I'd love to know how to tell in the future.

How can you tell which ones don't have epub? I notice in my library that Homeland doesn't have a download button, but it's there on the actual product page. I can't see any difference between it's product page and this one.

You have to look at it when it's in the list format (like from a category link or a search). It doesn't copy well here but check out this link, look down the page at the entries and you will see some are listed as showing EPUB, mobile and some are not. They are next to where it says "Available Formats."

The statement on the individual book page under "Read This On" is just a general statement about what kinds of devices their books can be read on and is listed on all of them.

Thanks - I'll be sure to check on any that cost money (as I hate having to fire up the Kobo software, but I could read it there). I haven't run into one of these at Kobo in months (nothing I was interested in, anyway).

YW - Well at least you haven't missed anything. lol. You could read it in your browser, as well, if you didn't want to use their software. I can't stand reading books on my computer anymore myself. I'm going to try to remember to post the formats from now on for Kobo or do the links differently.

Thank you for this - I hadn't run across this on my own. I'll know what to look out for, now.

For those who held out on getting this at the previous price, the price has dropped down further to just $0.76
