It's a Kindle 3 not a DX.

Cool review! Thanks. I had no idea about the 411 and 611 info pages that are available from the settings page. I love the screen shots.

Thanks for the trouble you went to there, RPV. I have a DXG on the way from the US at the moment to go with my K2.

Something you mentioned a couple of times was software updates. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one although general consensus on forums is that we may not get one before the next generation DX. I almost held off buying the DXG for this reason.

Can't wait for it to arrive next Monday (I hope!) - it's still in the WEST PHILADELPHIA DHL depot.

Congratulations on your purchase. What is consensus when next Kindle will be released and hence next software upgrade dates? Does Amazon follow a yearly cycle.

There is a lot of work involved on this review so thanks for doing it.

Any comments about DXG battery life, based on your current usage?

I am actually disappointed with DX battery life. If I don't switch 3G off manually, it drains fast. I have few blogs getting updated, do moderate browsing, battery drains fast. I had to recharge in 2 days. The 7 days-10 days Amazon says are best cases. If you use for a whole day, I think it will drain like ipad.

I use let's say for few hours a day. I wish it auto detects no activity and switches off 3G or has a config to say no 3G between 8 am to 5 pm and 11 Pm and 5 am on weekdays.

Same here, although mi initial battery was broken, It got depleted after 2 days of usage.

I returned it to Best Buy and the new one still has a charge after 7 days. I would say, heavy usage, mine should be giving about 5 to 7 days without 3G. But I can live with it. I bought it for my technical books and PDFs, so for novels and non fiction books, which are mainly text, I used the regular Kindle3
