Let say you reading your novel and have stumbled on a new word.
How many click, scroll it takes you to be able to see the definition of the word in the built in English dictionary in kindle 3 Wifi ? Is it as quick as Kobo Ereader's ? Thanks a lot ![]() Last edited by erictoma; 12-09-2010 at 02:47 PM. Reason: Some Kindle groupies are too senstive to Sony name lol |

This is one of the things that I think is great about the Kindle, compared to the Nook. It is very easy on the kindle. All you do is press up or down on the 5-way directional to make the cursor appear on the screen (press up to make the cursor appear on the bottom if the word is closer to the bottom, press down to make the cursor appear at the top of the page if the word is closer to the top). Then use the direction pad to place the cursor in front of the word and the definition pops up automatically. It only shows a few lines of the definition. If you want more, press enter to see the full dictionary entry, then the back button to return.
So, if you count holding down the down button to make it jump multiple lines as "one click", then you need just one click if it's the first word on a line, or two clicks (down, then right) to get to any other word. Plus one click (the back button) to make it go away. |

The Sony Touch Readers will get to a word faster than the Kindle (if the the word is at the top left or bottom left, it might be a tie). Is speed important?

Seriously, why do you care? You've made it very clear that you want nothing to do with a Kindle.

I concede the word-lookup race to the Sony Touch.
I'll keep that in mind for the next word-lookup race I'm in. ![]() |

I know nothing about the Sony, but Kindle is much, much faster than the Nook. So many steps on the Nook...

I'm beginning to think that by the time you actually get around to buying a digital reader - all the models will be 3 to 4 generations up from right now or perhaps even no longer available to buy.
Making our answer obsolete, before we even give them. |

I am reminded of the famous letter to the editor. "DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old. "erictoma say there is no fiction. "Papa says, 'If you see it in THE SUN it's so.' "Please tell me the truth; is there fiction?" Yes, VIRGINIA, there is fiction. Fiction exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no fiction. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished. Last edited by Madam Broshkina; 12-09-2010 at 05:25 PM. Reason: elves |
