Bookmato.com
Yesterday I received an e-mail from a new site called Bookmato saying in part:
"We saw your works on Smashwords, and we are planning to negotiate with smashwords so that the books posted there can be sold on our website. However, we believe it is better to talk to the authors first, so that you can save the percentage charged by smashwords .... Our pricing system contains basically 3 points: 1. author posting/publishing cost no money 2. reader purchase on chapter basis, you get 80%, we get 20% 3. you can set the chapters to be free or non-free." Here's the link: http://bookmato.com/Homepage.aspx Before I sign up, I need to know if this is a legit company. Thanks! Chicki Brown |

I don't think they have much of an idea of what readers want from ebooks these days, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be legit. It only seems to have been registed in September this year.

I posted this message on a few boards. The concensus is that they are a fledgling site and what they are doing is legit. Think I'll post my book with them and see if I get any sales.

They're new. They asked to link to my site, Bargain eBooks, and mentioned they were just getting started. I haven't had a chance to see their site yet.

Personally I would advise authors to post their books as as many sites as possible so that you have the greatest number of opportunities to sell your work. However, my advice is: 1) Give away free a part of the first chapter then charge for the rest; 2) Maximum charge of $8; 3) setup a database of readers who like your book, enter the names and email addresses of anyone who buys, next time you finish a work send an email to those in the database and tell them about your newest work; perhaps a $.25 discount for being entered into your database; 4) Register your work at such sites as fictfact.com and librarything.com so that those web sites will send you customers.

I may check out the Bookmato site here soon. The more exposure, the better.

It claims to be a Canadian site founded by two "English novel enthusiasts," but the English used throughout the site is poor. I'm going to pass on this one.

I just got their email today, and came here wondering if anyone knew anything about them. I guess it's still a question mark.

Ya, i got the same email the other day. Their domain is listed under "Private Registration" which is kinda a warning. I'm going to upload one of my free ebooks and see what happens.

Well, I took a look at their website. I think I'll steer clear for a while.

I got an invitation from them just now myself. On balance, I can't see why I wouldn't, at least to see what happens. Has anyone actually been paid by them yet?

Check out Mark Coker's site update of Dec 3rd. He doesn't name the site but says it rhymes with "Tomato" so I assume this is site he is talking about. Basically, he says that Smashwords has not worked with them and has no plans to do so. He doesn't seem to think they are trustworthy either.

I posted one piece there, just to see what happened. Nothing ventured. The process worked sweetly enough but so far, not a lot has happened.
