any places to get books other than kindle store?
i got my new kindle less than a week ago, its really nice and good to read on. however, i dont feel too good about the quality of ebooks i tried so far. most have errors like unnecessary skipped lines in the middle of a sentence, or unnecessary characters here and there. some books have more errors than others. also, many books have crappy quality cover art, and you cant replace it cause of DRM.
i downloaded a few books for like 99 cents each, and those are the ones that have all these things. do the books that cost more money also have better quality? anyways, i'm trying to find other websites that have ebooks for the kindle. i am specifically looking for christian books. any christian ebook stores out there? (sorry i suck at searching the internet by myself). i'd be glad to see some free christian book sites too, even if they are in PDF format. like right now im looking for books by charles spurgeon, free or not. im not happy with the samples of his books that i've tried from the kindle store. |

We have a terrific library of ebooks right here on mobileread. Scroll up to the blue bar where it says ebooks and you'll find it. Also Project Gutenberg is a good resource.
I have to agree with you that the Amazon listings, particularly for the classics, are often poorly formatted. I've kind of given up on them, myself. I always check here first. The bestsellers tend to be much better formatted, but anything older can be iffy. |

Pretty much any ebook site that offers up DRM-free ebooks (free or paid) can be used to feed a Kindle.
If they are in ePub or a legacy format you can run them through Calibre. If they are DRM'ed, you need to DeDRM the books before running them though Calibre. |

Get PG's free 30,000 volume DVD for a lifetime of reading, lots of it 'classics'.

Check out Amazon own free books. The free books are in the right hand column and change frequently. Be sure to check before clicking every once in a blue moon some pay to play books end up in the right hand column, but not often:
