PRS-600 replacement mainboard

Hi!
My PRS-600 just died on me, and the Sony repair center says my main board is defective and it'll cost me a little over $500 to fix it. I was just wondering if it is possible to buy a main board and try the procedure myself(I have done similar tasks before), and where to get spare parts

You best bet may be ebay. Look for a reader with a broken screen that someone is selling for parts.

Did you mean to say $500? Not $50? For $500, they should "repair" the 600 by sending you 2 new 650s and a 350.

isn't that cost more to repair than the reader itself? you can buy new ones for that!

In that case, I'm terribly sorry for bothering the busy people of Mobileread. I was just wondering if there's a cheaper way to repair the old one w/o getting a new one, but obviously there isn't

Why the sarcasm? It seems that the posters here are incredulous at Sony.

I'd really just get a new one. The new Sonys are awesome (and there should be sales to take advantage of for the moment), but if they're too expensive for your liking, there are Kindles and Nooks that go pretty cheaply these days.

Sorry for the sarcasm. I must say that I'm pretty fed up with Sony at this point. Will look intor finding on ebay or buying something else(would really like an prs-350), but I was really hoping that I'd get away cheaply. Again, sorry for the sarcasm
