How long have we been able to do this?

Maybe it's new or I haven't been paying attention. Last night I was following up on some book recommendations at Amazon and noticed that I can now buy Kindle books from the pBook page (if a Kindle book is available). How long has this been going on?

I *think* it is new... I can't really give you a definite answer though.

Using the Amazon UK site, I can see the Kindle edition in the other formats box but I don't get that one click Kindle box that you're getting so I guess it is new?

Yes it doesn't appear to be on the UK site. Something else which will be rolled out in the UK in due course I suppose.

Very interesting, daffy4u! It must be recent. I wonder if it was implemented along with the ebook gifting changes? However, I see something different than you. I am logged into my Amazon account, and I do have the Kindle desktop software installed (Mac version). Instead of "Read it now on PC", my computer says "Kindle Edition: Read First Chapter FREE". When I click the button, I thought it might prompt me to download a sample. Instead it brings up something called "Kindle for the Web Beta" which is a book previewer similar to the "Look Inside" p-book viewer. Within the Kindle for the Web previewer is a link to the Kindle Store and also a button to purchase the Kindle ebook now.

The Kindle web previewer appeared around October time I think. Its just a newer/nicer Kindle branded version of the existing pBook preview tool that you're familiar with.

Thanks, Tiersten. I hadn't noticed until now. However, I wonder why I don't see the same thing as daffy4u. Paperback, Hardcover, Audiobooks all have this Kindle "Read First Chapter" option rather than "Read It Now".

EDIT: There appears to be a difference in what you see on a Mac versus PC. No surprise, I guess! When I look at a p-book on the Amazon website on my Mac, I only see the Read First Chapter option. When I look at the same p-book on the Amazon website on a PC, I see both the Read It Now and the Read First Chapter options. Interesting!

Interesting indeed Bookworm_Girl. I'll have to take a look on my other laptop that doesn't have K4PC installed to see what I get.

Its not all books for some reason. This article talks more about it. Amazon works in mysterious ways is all I can say. They really need some sort of announcement blog or something for these Kindle changes...

Thanks, daffy4u, but I don't think you need to go through the bother now. Please see the edit I made to my last post. It is definitely a Mac versus PC thing. I tested it on a PC that doesn't have K4PC installed, and I didn't even bother to log into my Amazon account on that computer either. On the PC, I see what you see.

I think the new web Kindle only appears if you've got a browser that supports HTML5. It doesn't show you it if your browser isn't in the whitelist it has of browsers + versions that support HTML5 well enough to work.

Thanks for the link, Tiersten. I wonder why they don't advertise these features more. I found more info on the new Kindle for Web on the Amazon website too: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200528580

The Kindle for Web works great on my Mac. I am using Safari as a browser. Apparently Amazon just wants us Mac users to work harder to buy the Kindle edition. It would be nice to see a Buy Now button on the non-Kindle book edition like I can see on the PC.

there's also now an option to tell the search engine that you prefer your recommendations for Kindles.

Where is that?

Edit: Found it. It's a little teeny tiny box on the left side of the list of items I've purchased on the Improve Your Recommendations page.
