USA Public Holiday

Hi to the people from the USA, I have a question. How many and which days were public holidays for Thanksgiving?

My nook color left B&N in Nevada at 1.04pm 23 Nov. It arrived in Portland Oregon at 1.47pm 26 Nov. I paid for the quicker 3 day service but UPS are saying the delivery date is 30 Nov which means it will have taken 7 days. Was there a holiday on Friday? as Friday was the 3 days. Is there a public Holiday on Monday? since they are saying delivery is not until Tuesday.

The UPS description for 3 Day Select is:

UPS 3 Day Select®
Choose this guaranteed service for your less time-sensitive shipments

Delivery Commitment Delivery by the end of the third business day

I am just trying to understand why a 3 day service would take 7 days.

Edit...........I mis-read.

UPS doesn't deliver on Saturdays or Sundays, at least here.

Thursday is the only recognized US holiday.

Friday was business as usual.

Actually, UPS does do Saturday deliveries, if you specifically ask (and pay more). Otherwise, deliveries are Monday through Friday.

Despite Thursday being a holiday, UPS may have been transporting packages from depot to depot on Thursday... but don't quote me, I'm not sure.

While Black Friday isn't an official holiday, I'm not surprised if certain carriers don't ship on that day. Thursday was Thanksgiving, so everything was completely shutdown.

Your best bet is to call your local office and ask them directly.

You may have a refund coming.

So 3 business day means it should be delivered to my freight forwarder on Monday 29. So hopefully I can have it by the end of this week early next. Once I get it sent to Australia.

UPS doesn't deliver on Thanksgiving because of the holiday. They don't deliver anything over than air packages on the day after Thanksgiving. They also don't pick up any packages on Friday. The first day of the three day select delivery was Wed. Nov. 24th. The second day is Monday Nov. 29th and the third is Tuesday the 30th. Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

So it was scanned in on the public holiday but did not move again until the next day. I will have to wait to see when it is delivered because they state 3 working days they are covered till close of business on Monday.

The 3 working days don't start until the day after the package was picked up. Meaining in this case, Wed. Nov the 24th. Therefore they have until the end of business on Tuesday to deliver the package.

Actually, it appears that UPS doesn't do most pickups/deliveries on "black Friday". Per their web site: (http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/res...liday+schedule)
